During the San Juan festival people camp out on the beach all night and there is a great party atmosphere, often with BBQ's and music. It's a very popular event.
If we have guests in our rental apartment at that time, we offer them the use of a tent if they want it.

We were there on June 24th, the best spot is next to the Bil Bil Castle, they start around 1am, the streets are packed so is the beach with BBq's dancing, singing and at midnight the younger generation run into the sea, a great atmosphere and the firework display is magnificent :D The feria starts on the 25th June at the rear of Paloma Park, this also is not to be missed, the only downside is if your apt is within 1/2hr of the park you will not get any sleep for 5 nights as it goes on until around 5am each morning, so enjoy yourselves until the early hours, and sleep in a little late...

We are booked to go 17th- 30th june next year and was looking at the hotel san fermin, do you think we will hear the noise from there, might have second thoughts about this hotel if so. Thanks

Jules we could hear it from our apt, but SF is in the next ave, and further up the hill, so you should be okay, also a small brandy will help as well

Take a look at the "Fiestas and Holidays" pages http://www.benal-life.com/fiestas/fiestas.htm#juan where you can read about the festivities, see a picture gallery and there is even a film clip of the fireworks.
Be ready for a late night, it is well worth it,

Cheers,

John
