Hi, I have been to both Bodrum and Marmaris. Marmaris is by fare better. Bodrum does not have a beach at all, they just have a marina. Bodrum is quite livley and still a nice but by the beginning of my second week I was quite bored with bodrum its self.

Stayed in neither but passed through both on a number of occasions - much prefer Bodrum.

It's got a fantastic castle... what more could ya possibly need?

I much prefered Bodrum. Yes, it hasn't got a beach but the beach in Marmaris was so narrow and full of litter and fag ends I didn't want to use it. Both places has very good beaches close by. The night life near Marmaris (Icemeler) is the best, but there are better beaches and many more things to see on the Bodrum peninsular

cheers for advice guys, do u think i will enjoy bodrum as much as marmaris? you know what it's like, you save up all your pennies for a holiday and i just desperately dont want to be thinking 'ah should have took the safe option to marmaris!'

My advice! Dont go to Marmaris, a busy, touristy, town with fish and chips and Worthy bitter etc. Not really much to do with Turkey. Icemeler, just a couple of miles away is much better.

Bodrum is an old city, and surounded by some lovely places and beaches to visit.
Your decision???

Bodrum without a doubt, and then go to Gumbet for the beach and some good bars.

I have stayed in Gumbet but whilst we were there we made several trips over to Bodrum which is just a short Dolmush ride away.

I loved everything about both Bodrum and Gumbet and i felt it had the right mix of lively resort and culture (i realise there are a lot of other less touristy places in Turkey). The castle and marina and old town at Bodrum are nice to look round then you have the night life of both places along with a nice beach over at Bitez.

Marmais however did not impress me (although we did still have a good holiday there). It is a very large place and not exactly to my liking.

Definatly Bodrum or Gumbet for me! :D

Hi guys, we have tried all over Turkey for the last 15 years(Kusadasi, Bodrum, Fehtiye, Side, Altinkum etc) but found Marmaris best suited us because theres something for everyone, yes it is very commercialised but theres loads of chill out and Turkish bars (which we prefer) to visit, it's in easy access to icmeler (which i also love) for the beach and you can't beat the shops.
gagamusic, Bodrum does'nt have a beach but Gumbet does and it's only a few minutes away on a dolmus though would'nt say it's a nice beach.
Bodrum is a lot more Turkish than Marmaris and on a totally different scale, it's a lot smaller with little streets but with loads of good bars.

Ive been to Marmaris and gumbet/bodrum

I absolutly loved marmaris i thought it was fantastic so i m going back in september .

And i absolutly hated gumbet / bodrum seemed really small would not go back even it was free .

I think really depends on what sort of holiday or looking for.

Hope you have a good one where ever you choose

What made you hate Bodrum and Gumbet so much Maria?! I can't say that i'd call bodrum a small place, agreed it is quite a bit smaller than Marmaris but Bodrum/Gumbet still are of a good size with plenty to do (Bars/restaurants/other places to visit)...

Im not sure why i hated so much i still had a good holiday there is just know way i would go back

I did find it small compared to marmaris .

I didnt think it had such a friendly amosphere as marmaris has and i didnt think there was as much to do.

Just love Marmaris i guess .

its a fair comment, i just wondered because i feel the opposite way in that i love Bodrum/Gumbet and i wasnt that keen on Marmaris.

I wouldnt say that B/G had more to do, but it definatly had plenty to entertain us. Marmaris does have more bars/clubs etc but we (group of lads) found B/G to be well equiped to have a good time.

I found Marmaris to be far more unfriendly (because of its size i suppose) but then everybody's experience is different and i suppose should i go back there i might find it different.

Still it wouldnt pay for us to all like the same place, it'd be far too busy

Did you stay near the bars along the beach ( around xbar 0 ?

i agree with maria, i much prefer marmaris/icmeler area than bodrum/gumbet, the scenery in my opinion is far nicer in icmeler and some of the areas around marmaris near the marina etc are really nice, im not so keen on the long stretch of bars/restaurants etc in marmaris, but with my mother living there shes taken us to some lovely spots dotted around off the beaten track and within a short drive of marmaris and i love marmaris in the winter . i personally prefer quieter places that are more turkish and avoid the towns that are too touristy and loud, but as you say gaffer good job we dont all like the same, as my favourite town in turkey would then be too busy !!

I like Bodrum, Marmaris & Fethiye but only as a start or an end to a gulet cruise. A day or so in any of them is enough. As a resort I prefer Side because it has a great beach and is much more Turkish than the others I mentioned.

Turgetries has a lot to offer as well.
