just back from a 3 day, 2 night holiday in lapland with transun which is depicted as the true lapland in hetta. if you want a trip to somewhere thats not commercialised this is it. it reminded me of being in the wilderness. for a start i came back with nearly all my euros as i only spent on drinks and a few lapland type presents as there was only a very few shops/places to spend your money in.
The weather started off at -6 but fell to -14 by the time we left on the sunday. on arrival it was a very fast turn a round at the airport on to the coaches. we stayed at the hotel jussantupa. the hotel was clean and the food good. the trips we not just taster session but half day activities. the one my grandson (aged 11) liked the best was the fun and activity morning which consisted of sliding down the hills on sledges, snowmobile rides across a frozen lake to see santa in a cabin in the woods etc. the afternoon snowmobile activitiy was a long ride through the woods (2 hours or more) in the dark and very cold. the husky ride i didn't expect to have to drive the team myself so chickened out but again my grnadson liked it. I would not recommend the holiday for under 5's as most of the younger children ended up crying after about half-an-hour with the cold on the activities, even though they were properly dressed. we all had thermals and were wearing 3/4 layers, 3 pairs of thermal socks and this was topped off by the all in one snow suit/boots the company provided. dispite this after being out of doors for a hour or more we felt the cold. all the staff and people were friendly and helpful and the festive dinner on the last evening had all the expected trimmings. the wait in the airport to get back on the plane(which is a large hut) was endless as there was not enough checking staff and all the 3 planes left at the sametime. we then sat on the run way for ages waiting for all the passangers to board and the plane to be de-iced, which ended up in a two hour delay. it was an experience i always wanted to do so i am glad i went but wouldn't choose to go again and would definately only recommend to take over 5's due to the cold.
