I would imagine prices will only go up as December is peak season in NY. We were there from Dec. 5th to 8th last year and the place was heaving.

Best of luck hope you find a good deal.

Does this apply to flight prices too? :think I was keeping an eye on my preferred flight-route for NY in mid-Dec, not able to afford to book there and then at the online price (not till pay-day!), and in the last week the price has gone up about £160 :sad

Any chance there might be further changes (i.e. back down!)? I did hear that if you keep checking particular dates frequently, the flight companies get wise to it, assume there's a reason for the dates being popular and put the prices up accordingly. Anyone else heard about this?

Dear Alex,

December is such a popular time to visit New York. In terms of prices i would say the sooner you can book the better the deal you will get. My partner and i looked into going to New York last Christmas from September onwards. The cheapest deal we could get for our dates, which were closer to Chrismas, were £500 each.

Good luck with prices and have a fab time its and amazing city.

I would certainly look to secure accommodation as early as possible. Hotel rooms tend to fill up and are in very very short supply in November and December in the run up to Christmas.

I got a right bargin last year, 4 star hotel(3 nights) in times square and flights with KLM from UK (ok so not direct- added about 3-5hours each way) total you ask???

£527 each :tup my local Travel agent wanted £1300- flying direct albeit from the opposite end of the country(london)

Top tip:- even if you don't want to fly with KLM/Air France- book you accommodation through their website they get some terrific savings against expedia/travelocity/priceline/virgin holidays and pretty much any website you can name.

I booked 12 hours before- yes, booked 8pm, was in the bar 6am :cheers

I booked in Sept last year for my trip last December with no problems. Flights tend to come down in price around this time as carriers try to fill up seats on the aircraft, so expect to see special offers around this time on the usual websites (BA, Virgin etc). I paid £250 return with BA last year. As for accomodation, its true that the longer you wait and the fuller the hotel the more expensive the rooms, but hotels know Dec is in high demand, and as such prices will still be high even to book now. The problem I found in Sept was not so much the prices but that many of the recommened places were full. However saying that, I booked direct with the New Yorker hotel for £500 for 2 people for 3 nights. May sound expensive but many hotels wanted double this, and the hotel was adequate for the money, nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable and in a great location. Personally I am waiting again until the same time this year before booking for Dec again this year.
