I need to renew mine too and i think it goes up in price tomorrow to £77.50!
I think that the passport office now adds any unexpired time onto your new passport which is not too bad.

hi
yes definately
yes definately
Some countries (like USA) have reciprocal arrangements with the UK, whereby you can still fly out, even if your passport expires while you are away. They can add an additional 6 months grace on to your passport.
However, none of the airlines will take the chance and usually refuse to let you fly if you don't have 6 months clear after your scheduled return.
Lufthansa wouldn't let me fly to USA 'cos I would only have 4 months left on my passport on my return flight.
When I eventually got to the USA, the immigration people said "it wouldn't have been a problem."
