I believe anything electrical has to be carried in your hand luggage it might be worth your while contacting BAA for the most upto date information.
If you are not needing the batteries (or any other electrical items i.e hair dryer etc..) - put them in your check-in case.
Cameras / camcorders can go in check-in case if you feel safe they will not be pinched / stolen - otherwise put them in hand luggage,these will have to be screened seperatley (if asked by officials).
Have a look at this site for tips - amazing how many can't be bothered and then hold up check-in procedure times, making us all frustrated before we set off !!
