At that time of year the taxi drivers will bite your hand off for a fare.
Taxis are cheaper than in UK - I pay 8 or 9 Euros for the 4 mile run to the station from my place.
Officially, you cannot flag down taxis in the street, so make sure you get hold of the local taxi telephone number when you arrive.

on the subject of Portuguese taxis. Is there any legal difference between the cream ones and the black and green ones with an A on the door??
