Pestana Alvor is at the bottom of a steep hill You will need taxis or hire a car to get anywhere.

Just to say you can walk easily into the restaurants in Alvor and also there is a bus stop in the grounds of the hotel

We have stayed at the Delfim many times and always enjoyed it. Yes it is situated on a hill however we have never had any trouble walking into town or back up the hill on an evening. If you like walking the Delfim is perfectly situated for some lovely walks along the cliffs, beach etc.
There are a lot of good restaurants in Alvor from little cafes to a la carte. We like Perinis (the little cake shop on the street leading into town) if we just wanted soup, pizza, sandwiches or cakes. They were all very good, the staff friendly and the prices cheap. The Seattle on the front does a really good 3 course Sunday lunch with live music. Al Dente is lovely but more expensive. We have eaten in many establishments and not had a bad meal.
Alvor IMO in lovely we can't stop going back. Until we found it we very rarely returned to a destination twice however Alvor has 'caught us' we love it.
Enjoy yourselves

Thanks Vonmac - great to hear that you recommend Alvor. We're really looking forward to it and I've heard that the Delfim is currently closed for a refurbishment so hopefully it will be finished before we go in June.
