I certainly wouldn't complain about the taps but it is something people from other countries usually remark on after visiting the UK. I think many countries do have mixer taps, we do here in Germany, some people aren't happy though if they can't find something to complain about.

I read a hotel review recently and someone was complaining that the crickest were too loud outside their room

Someone on a review moaned that they couldn't enjoy the beach as it was too windy. Well you can't control that can you

We are not long back from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and witnessed several guests loudly complaining to anybody that would listen that their holiday had been a huge disappointment because the sand wasn't white enough and the sea not blue enough and this was not what they had expected in the Caribbean

Make your own mind up, this is the beach they are talking about

I worked as a tour escort for a few years and thought I had heard everything but invariably someone would come up with something new. I've also heard people say they thought the sea would be bluer when we were gazing at a perfectly beautiful turquoise ocean. I came to the conclusion that a lot of people don't even know they are complaining and it is part of their nature to say something negative.

Perhaps people aren't complaining so much as making a comment. I mean my recollections and photo's of Puerto Plata don't match those of Kiltman...perhaps down to the time of year we visited, sea and weather conditions. The sea certainly was not that blue. But then we only paid £269 for two weeks and we enjoyed ourselves.

We've been on that beach Kiltman. I was very pleasantly surprised as I'd read that the beach wasn't up to much

Some complaints I've heard and read are corkers! My favourite one was when a family complained about the fish in the sea as they were scaring the kids and they couldn't go for a swim! The other was that the hotel was described in the brochure as fully air conditioned, yet it wasn't available around the outdoor pool and it was too hot to sit out in! You hear loads of complaints about the bugs overseas, like we don't have them in this country! It's all part of the local wildlife. Another good one is 'on my holiday to Goa, I was disgusted to find almost every restaurant served curry. I don't like spicy food at all'

We still smile when we think of a comment two elderly ladies made in Tenerife a few years ago.
They were sitting in the foyer of our Hotel all hot and bothered, so being that kind of person I asked them if they were alright, their reply still makes me laugh, they said. "We've never been as hot as this in our lives, we'd never have come if we thought it was going to be as hot as this outside"
