Advice please - we will be staying in Patnem South Goa feb-march and would like to go to a decent market. A few years ago went to the saturday night market nr anjuna, however at that time we were staying in Cavelossim. Even then the journey was very tiring, i seem to remember 2-3hrs ish. This time we will be in Patnem, so another 1hr away! Thought it would be more sensible to stay over??? Anybody any ideas??

There are no night markets down south, like the Saturday night market at Aprora. Sorry I can't help with acommodation, but don't think it would be hard to find a Guesthouse nearby, as everyone is saying, it's quiet this season up north.

try the silver moon guest house ,stayed there last visit,you can find them on hostel bookers.com
Look for accommodation in the Apora area as Mackie's is on the Apora/ Baga border and the old Ingo's is only about a mile away from Mackie's in the hills both on Sat evenings
The Marinha Dourda is a very good hotel a few minutes stoll from Mackie's but will cost about 2500 Rps a night after bartering from 4000 plus
