A BIBA (British Insurance Broker Association) registered broker would sort this out for you. Better than a cheap on line deal. We know of people with cheap insurance who have been left exposed.

I dont know who my daughter is insured with but they have been told by their insurance company they can claim £100 each because of being stranded.
I will find out which company it is when they eventually get home.

Some insurance policies do give some cover. But as Steve8482 has said on numerous occasions here on HT people fail to read the small print (T&Cs) in their policy.
Without wanting to go off topic many of the policies that people buy are just an expensive bit of paper. I was quoted just £15.00 for a joint annual policy last year when we renewed - and that was with a known health concern. Whilst this problem is unprecedented you only get the cover you have paid for. When it is really cheap and cheerful then if something goes wrong you will be hard pressed to be cheerful.
For any new members there is some excellent information on insurance here on HT which is where I found the information I needed to get a policy that did cover my problem at a reasonable price.

hi can some one tell me whats the differance having a mastercard/visa and a credit card
Mastercard and Visa both do credit cards. You can use them to pay for goods and services and pay the bill when it comes in or pay some of it and pay interest on the balance, which can be quite high.
Visa also do a debit card. When you use it, it takes the money from your bank account, ie debit, so you can only use it if you have funds in your account.

Oh my god, I didn't realise the EHIC card wasn't accepted in Turkey. My hubby has travel insurance through his job which covers us all.
