yes hotel is right on the sea front. Its the Don Pedro Bhaia. I understand that Machico is a small place but has a bit of history.

Yes and one of only 2 places with a sandy beach. You are quite close to the airport though.
We went there a couple of months ago and had a drink at the marina, seemed a nice place.
If you get chance hire a car, there are some spectacular places to go on the island.
