Your visa is free. Didn't you get one when you bought your flight?
Try Gran Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado in DR -Fab hotel on its own island, good food, adults only and never too busy.
what time of year are you thinking of taking your special holiday davekemp?
carribean hurricane season is june-november.
i went to dominican republic in february this year and stayed iberostar costa dorada, puerto plata.
we went to visit cayo levantado 'barcadi beach' for the day so although i cant comment on the hotel, i can confirm the area and beach there are beautiful. we had a drink in a beach bar served in a dug out pineapple..
we actually went to samana- cayo levantado to see the hump back whales, a lovely part of the dominican republic

I would recommend Aruba, reasonable flight times, it gets very little rain as its so far south, and below the traditional hurricane belt. There is a number of options for adults only, I have stayed at the Renaissance hotel there which has two sides, one adult only hotel and the other side of the road family suites, it is close to the airport and lots of bars and cafe's. The hotel has its own (very)private beach that you have to get a boat too. One side family/anyone and the other adult only which has its own flamingos wondering around you as you sunbathe.

Hi Dave , I think a quick and easy answer is the Caribbean , depends if you like the Caribbean though ? Generally very good all inclusive s , nice beaches etc, some can be just adult orientated , some lively , some quieter and romantic , I think there is enough contrast between the different islands to find something to suit you .
I also think you could look at the Maldives , but AI is more costly there , but a very special and unique place .
Obviously with all resorts you need to view the weather periods to choose a good time to visit .

I can thoroughly recommend East Winds Inn in St Lucia. It's a small resort of about 30 rooms/cottages, all-inclusive, with the most fabulous food served in an open-sided restaurant on the beach. Although it does accept children, very few guests choose to take their kids! It's the ultimate in relaxed pampering, totally "unstuffy" ........... perfect!
The beach is pale sand with palm trees and plenty of shade, smallish but never crowded as it's only used by the guests staying at East Winds.
