Anyone got an experience of buying Diamonds in Dubai - i bought a ring there last year from Damas within the hotel and was pleased with it and I think I paid less for it than I would in England.

I didn't go to the Diamond Centre which was quite new I believe

Anyone got any experience good or bad? Or can our Dubai residents give us some diamond dealing tips...places to go etc.

Just to back up all the positive comments for anyone who is thinking of going to Dubai here...

Stayed at the Jumeirah beach hotel 2 years ago and loved it and it was excellent for my daughter there and i'm going back in 4 weeks on monday .

Oasis beach hotel is excellent, nice food, great beachfront and wonderful staff. There is a lot of building work going on around it but dont worry, you wont hear a thing inside the hotel. One tip, dont use the hotels own taxis, use the normal Dubai ones, the hotels will charge you twice the going rate.
The Gold Souk is definitely THE place to buy diamonds, no question.
