Hi off to Can Pastilla next month staying at the Apolo.
Any tips on good things to see or do around the area?
I've been told it's quite a "German" orientated area, is this true? Not that I'm too bothered, although it does get a bit boring when everyone just tries talking German to you all the time!
Hi Paul!
Can Pastillia is indeed very Dutch/German/Spanish orientated, not so many Brits, which is why we love it so much! If you want "British" theres the little train along the beach which will take you to Arenal, where youll find more British style restaurants etc.
Theres a fun bar on the front opposite the beach in Can Pastilla, called "Ricks", its got pub quizzes and entertainment on every night till the early hours. Its owned by a lovely Scottish couple and their son Richard keeps everyone entertained.
Entertainment mostly consists of singers and musicians in the restaurants and bars, however this was plenty good enough for us.
You are about 10 minutes in the car from Palma, and the bus service is very good, also if you have a hire car and fancy a bit of nightlife youre not too far from Palma Nova/Magaluf etc.
But we just loved the resort itself!!! Little tip though, if you want to purchase alcohol dont do it in the resort, its much cheaper in Magaluf, and definately worth the journey!

great thanks Tootsie!
To be honest I'm not too bothered if it's not "British" I live here I don't need all that on holiday too (my last holiday was to Germany!). But just as long as I can communicate with people it helps.
Not sure we'll bother with Magaluf, although the lure of cheap drinks to bring back may be strong!
Which hotels have you stayed at? Do you anything about the Apolo?

Paul we stayed at the Brasilia Playa, right opposit the beach, it was three star I think, not luxurious but certainly comfortable and the restuarant served really good food.
The beach is one of the nicest Ive seen and the waves are really high, which is lovely to wake up to in the morning!
Re Magaluf, it wasnt for us either, although I know many people love it, I was just suggesting its cheaper there if you are buying spirits to take home etc!
Sorry I dont know anything about the Apolo, but can say you will love the resort itself!!!!!
We didnt find any problems with communicating, once we had a couple of glasses of wine it didnt seem to matter! We went to the Telegraph bar where there were at least 10 nationalities all having a drink together and singing along with the guy there, who is the spitting image of Billy Connolly!
Sorry I couldnt help you more with the hotel but hope you have a fab holiday anyway!

that's cool thanks tootsie.
Our hotel is 50yds from a beach, but from looking at the map/photo's it's not the main beach (which is still only about 600yds away!).
We've a few days planned, like a trip into Palma and on the train to Soller then across to sa Calobra, but bearing in mind we've only got 7 days want to spend the rest of the time local taking it easy!
Apart from the pool and beach is there anything good (local) you can recommend to keep a 5yo boy amused?
We're really looking forward to it!

Hi Paul I don't know if you remember me but you posted a reply on a forum when I asked a question Ca n Pastilla.
Any way I have a favour to ask you when you come back from your holidays will you post the answers to the following for me (as we are on a budget this time so need to be careful with the pennies)
Price of:
Local lager per pint
Local Red Wine
Local Brandy
Breakfast
Light Lunch
Evening meals
And your favourite restaurants
I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday!

I'll try my best to make a note of these. My internet access in August will be a bit patchy though as I'm changing jobs and moving house (as well as a holiday, good job I'm taking the whole of August off!). I'll try to get back to you soon after our return though.
Not sure whether we'll have many restaurants to recommend though as we're all inclusive, but I'll try and observe where looks good/popular.

for your lad (or even you) there is a big crazy golf course down towards arenal ,jump on the toy train on the front ,only about 5 mins away on that
not sure on the name but its got a big massive dinasaur outside (not a real one lol)
oh also loads of them bike hire places on the front ,they have them big uns that all the family can fit in ,bloody hard work peddling though

thanks Imp. The pedalling will be good for me, I'm in training for a marathon so could do with the exercise while I'm away (running in 35C heat doesn't seem to appealing!), and it will be me doing all the work as the better half is recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon!
The golf place sounds good too.

Thanks to everyone for their advice, we had a great holiday. Imp I have to say we did both the mini golf and the family cycle, you are right it was hard work pedalling!! Tootsie, we went on the smaller beach which was a bit more protected from the waves. That said our first few days the sea was pretty calm, the wind picked up towards the end of our stay and the waves were quite impressive, just in time for the surf festival today and tomorrow! We did find that the clientelle was very mixed, a lot of Germans, but a lot more Spanish families, there were quite a few Italian, but I have to say the Brits were very well represented too.
Our hotel was nice, clean and comfortable. The food was good the first few days but wasn't so good towards the end. It was all edible though!
BobbyJoy, unfortunately for you we spent most of our time eating and drinking at our hotel (the only time we ate out was visiting Palma and Soller, and the only time drinking out was when we went to watch the England game).
San Miguel was €3.50 at the one bar we drank out at (same price for cider), although I think most places sold Cruzcampo, which could be a bit cheaper.
We don't really drink wine or brandy, although my partner had a couple of Ponche Cabllero's, and that was €2.50. This was at a bar called Poppy's.
There's plenty of choice for restaurants, and none of them seemed overly expensive.

We will be arriving 15th Sept. for one week, staying at the Hotel Linda. Seeing as we aim to be travelling light, would it be safe/possible to do the short walk by foot?
Hiya Paul!
Just back myself (from Tenerife this time!) and saw your posts.
Glad that you enjoyed Can Pastilla, we will certainly be visiting again, and that you enjoyed the big waves!!!!
