Bistro is great, excellent food and service - definitely recommended
Just back from Calangute and found an excellent restaurant called Jungle Village. This restaurant is english managed and everything there is perfect. The owners and waiters are very friendly and the food is second to none. They are on the main road between Bombay Bazaar and Raj Furniture. Definately worth a visit.
Just returned last Sunday so thought I'd update the topic re retaurants. Went to Ram's Carvery- excellent (down beach road upstairs terrace overlooking the road). Also Moonlight, a turning down behind the football pitch, and 'Kalinga' on Fort Aquada road. These were the three Candolim favourites along with Cactus Shepherds Pie as usual.
best breakfast was jazz corner for me.had tonys place couple times for dinner so good 
Bhatti Village bar has been shut all season, seems there was a bust up between the family members.
Try Riverview just after Nerul bridge, food is good & prices are very reasonable. Kingfish rawa fried is great & less than 100rps.
We had lunch at Posh in Nerul, only open for breakfast & lunch.
Portions were small, fish over cooked, price high but setting superb.
Souymens Kitchen is probably the best place we ate in during the 2 months we were there and that included the Banyan Tree (Taj).
One new restaurant in Candolim deserves a mention Rising Waves, set back opposite Candolim market.

My boyfriend and I went for two weeks in February and ate at a lot of brilliant restaurants in Candolim.
However without doubt the best restaurant is a hidden jewel called CASA MANOLITA.
We only found this place in the second week - you turn right down a passage next to the Dona Alcina. It is a bit more expensive( still amazing value though) and you get what you pay for - food was amazing. It is set in beautiful portuguese villa which is actually the owner's home. Only go here if you like dogs though - we fell in love with Eros and Sasha - who roam freely( it's their home).
I can't recommend this place enough - it was a highlight of an amazing holiday.
For us the worst place was the Stonehouse - food was very average in comparison to some of the amazing meals we had. Horizon Bar and Restaurant is good, as is Floyd's and the Fisherman's Cove.

Sweet Chilli - went twice, lovely food
Fisherman's Cove food was rubbish, steak like boot leather
Ice and Spice was average but did a lovely steak sizzler
Titus Roma Pizza was nice except they forgot to bring hubby's starter out to him
Chef Soumayan's Kitchen was lovely, the steak was fab
Monica's Beach Shack, all yummy food
Phoenix Park had Red Snapper and spent all night being sick
Ruffles did a brill English breakfast, shame we only came across it 3 days before leaving!!
Overall, for our 1st trip to Goa we were really impressed.

Don't tell too many people about Casa Manolita, we think it is great but must be careful otherwise it will be too busy.
we ate at Rams, (from cactus, he is no longer involved in cactus) 'new' restaurant tonight 'the carvery' holiday road candolim...its up stairs (roof restaurant)....we are not into carvery's but they have full menu other than that and the meal we had was excellent and nice ambience and he always makes such an effort to make you welcome which counts for a lot.the personal touch......and good prices....worth trying

Can't add anything much to that last posting really, absolutely agree....Carvery is great!! Pity about what happened at cactus but Ram has moved on and seems more determined than ever to make a go of things!! We've been there at least 6 times this season and never had a bad meal!!

I just love the straightforward simple menu - 4 or 5 starters, then another 4 or 5 entrees and finish off with - you've guessed it 4 or 5 desserts.
Why, oh why, will people sit in a restaurant along-side that fucking main road and put up with the noise and fumes?
When they could be sitting in a beautiful setting like Nick and Anneto's garden.
By the way pinkloobylou - the house is not portuguese, it was built in the seventies by a german (Deiter) who also built the Marbella Guesthouse.

Has anyone been to Jambalaya(s) ? on candolim road done a search but nothing coming up, my son's girlfriend fancies trying it as 'looks nice' we have never been there, interested to hear if anyone has tried it?

I've tried Jambalaya!! The food was good but a little overpriced. I had the lamb chops which were lovely served with mint sauce and hubby had Chicken Tikka. Can't remember the exact price but seem to remember thinking that Chiken tikka with chips was quite a lot more expensive than in other places. Nice setting and nice staff.

Kim Farr (chinese) in Baga is an excellent restaurant. The duck with the pancake is fantastic. They have a varied menu so should suit all tastes. Gets busy, so get there early or book a table in advance.

we have just returned from our 3rd trip to Goa and there is a lovely little restaurant/bar just round the corner from the osborne hotel in Calangute, called Moonshine and it is run by a british couple, the sunday roasts are fab.
