Sorry for the initial waffle but the question will make more sense with it.

Following an initial trip to Rhodes in 2008 we are going again in June to coincide with an open air rock festival that happens every year. Doing an initial trek around the websites we realised that going for 2 weeks is not much more expensive than going for one week so 2 weeks was our choice. I then spotted that there was a car ferry from Marmaris to Rhodes so the idea of a week in Turkey then a week in Rhodes (or vice versa) was born.

So the questions are

1) has anyone used the car ferry and have they any comments
2) are there any issues hiring a car in Turkey and taking it across to Rhodes for a week or would hiring a car in Turkey and a seperate car in Rhodes be a better idea?
3) we have been advised to avoid central Marmaris as a holiday destination but that there are some nice suburbs. So suggestions for locations and hotels would be greatly appreciated.
