Going to Hotel S'algar in August. Has anyone been recently who can tell me whether they provide pool towels so I don't have to pack any. Also I've read on other forums that the food has recently gone "down hill" so any comments on that would be appreciated.
Thanks
Deb
Was there last week and the weather was brilliant.Iam sure they have towels for the pools as I saw people round the pool with big blue towels with the salgar hotel written on them ,I have also read this on an internet site but cant remember which one but it said towels and pool towels changhed daily.C ant comment on the food as we go selfcatering so we can eat out at different places.Have you been to salgar before? We hav been about twenty times over the last twentyfive years and love it there,Any questions plaese feel free to ask.
Thanks for your reply. We are due to go at the end of the month so now getting excited. We have been to Menorca once before but stayed in Cala Galdana. We have heard S'Algar is very quiet which is what we like. Are there any places to walk to for a drink in the evening? Have you used the dive school?
you could walk over the rocks to Alcafar where there is a restaurant called Picalo Mondo and sit in the courtyard,it has brilliant views of Salgar.Better still with a drink in your hand.It is peaceful in Salgar, but with it comes peace of mind that you wont be bothered with louts and feel totally safe and relaxed. The diving school has been there for as long as I can remember and seems to do good business, seem to go out diving every day.The only time we used it was when our son took lessons when he was about 13 he is 28 now.Feeling as though I should be back there already but I guess I will have to wait till September.
Thanks for you reply. Can't wait now!!
who did you guys book this through - I am havig trouble finding S'algar? Thanks
You can book with nearly all the tour operators or privately with Travel Republic.co.uk Medhotels etc or you could go to Visit menorca.com.Hope this helps.
I booked with Portland Direct.
We stay in a villa and hire a car for two weeks - I think S'algar is a great base for Menorca as it is quiet yet has two or three good places to eat and a couple of shops - the bakery is highly recommended.
Even in Menorca some resorts are getting commercialised and too hectic I think - good for a day trip but nor for two weeks. S'algar helps you relax following the day trip !!
Driving in Menorca is so easy most days we visited a different beach/resort - one motorway down the middle of the island makes everywhere accessible in one hour or less.
A restaurant called Asia serving Chinese type food opened last year and was top quality - hope it is still going - it was opposite the San Luis hotel.
The hotel bar and beach at Alcuafar are idyllic - you can walk there or drive it in 2 minutes !! I believe it was the first hotel on the island and it is great to sit in the bar there over the beach.
The horse trotting races on Saturday nights (starting about 6pm are great fun) and less than 10 minutes drive from S'algar - on the road to San Luis.
(One tip is do not bet on the fat man who looks like one of the members of ZZ Top - he always comes last)
Another great place approx 15 mins drive away is a beech near binibeca that has a cafe/restaurant overlooking it - great for the kids
The restaurant at the las palmeras apartments is fine in s'algar - the entertainment at the san luis hotel is good for kids
Hotel s'algar bar was very refined - definitely more for couples - families should stay at las palmeras or san luis I think.
We used to go to all inclusive hotels etc but now we would never do it again - my advice is go to Menorca hire a car and cherry pick the best beaches, restaurants, and even hotel pools - (nobody ever stops you going in the hotels) - Different restaurant and resort every day - we love it !!

If you fancy trying this part of Menorca - I have put details of the villa company we use in the VILLAS TO RENT discussion on this page
