We also heard a story that on Sunday the Thomson flight to Barbados had a bad landing and cracked the fuselage.

Hopefully Darren will know if that is truth or rumour. They did have one last about October that had a heavy landing at Bristol and suffered the same problem, but that has been back in service since December.

Not sure why the TOM105 was a Thomas Cook plane

As above, your flight was operated by Thomas Cook as there wasn't an aircraft to operate your flight due to a technical problem. It was either a lengthy delay or sub-chartered to another airline. Airlines don't have multi-million pound aircraft sitting around, they ned to be paying their way. An aircraft sat on the ground costs money. with the sounds of it, the tour operator and airlines handled things pretty well and got you hold with a minimum delay. Lack of information is always the weeker side in these situations but bear in mind reps in resort are often in a situation where they don't have the information to give you.

This isn't true as far as I know. This is in reference to the landing incident last year in Bristol. That aircraft is now repaired and back in service.

morning all, this is a right old boring question which has probably already been answered a million times, but ho-hum...is there anyone who actually knows what premium hold luggage allowance is with thomson these days? we are flying 9th of march, our invoice says 20, ''mythomson'' booking page for our holiday says ''check your invoice'' and last september we were allowed up to 23 with 7kg hand, yet as mentioned, all our paperwork up to now says 20-not got tickets just yet, so confused! anyone flown recently who can give me a clue? thanks is advance!

emmacat,

I think there is even confusion at Thomson on premium luggage allowances! Your invoice should set out your luggage allowance. The standard premium service is showing as 23kg checked-in luggage allowance and 7kg hand luggage. When you come to book the premium upgrade, this is what is shown. However, it's clearly stated on the luggage section that premium passengers are now only entitled to 20kg checked-in allowance and 7kg hand luggage. All the indications are, it's 20/7 from now on with some short haul reduced too. You could argue the case though that you aren't getting what you booked as it's shown as 23/7 on the booking screen and brochures at the moment, and when you booked. I would wait until your tickets arrive then possibly make a phone call if they're showing 20kg to double check as you should be entitled to 23kg as that may have been the case when you booked (subject to date).

Last week flying with Thomson it was 23kg luggage and 7kg hand luggage allowance, both there and back - although this was a 'Premier' benefit of staying at a 'Platinum' hotel, rather than because we upgraded our seats to Premium.

It says 23kg for both Premier and Premium in the November 2010 - October 2011 brochure itself in the A-Z, page 222:

Thomson Premier & Premium Upgrade Luggage Allowance

Each customer is entitled to a check-in allowance of 23kg & a maximum 7kg for hand luggage. This is only applicable to Thomson Premier & Premium upgrade customers, no single item of baggage may exceed 23kg.

I'd phone them to double check though.

Angie34,

Are you sure it's Sunday 6th Feb they are flying? There are no flights on the schedule for a Sunday and MAN-FNC-MAN (TOM2548/9) are listed as a Friday departure? They're operated by a Boeing 737-300. These don't have IFE installed.

Premier & Premium Upgrade luggage allowanceEach customer is entitled to check-in allowance of 20kg and a maximum 7kg for hand baggage (max. dimensions: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm).

However on Firstchoise website it states

Customers choosing to book a Premium Seat (on selected flights) will enjoy an inclusive check in baggage allowance. Premium seats include a total of 30kg baggage allowance (a maximum of 23kg can be checked in to the hold and up to 7kg can be taken on board).

I have booked with Thomson for the hotel that im going to in the Dominican although Firstchoice do it for the same price but by doing that i have done myself out of 3kg!
Not too happy about that!

As far as I know the premium luggage allowance reduces to 20kg hold 7kg hand from 1st May.
Economy goes down to 15kg and 5 kg.

Frankly Thomson haven't a clue about hold baggage, their system doesn't even know the correct information.

I recently wrote to them following my recent trip, I told them of the problems I encountered at check in at Cancun, the letter came back saying "I can see from the system you purchased an extra 5kg".

Wrong I paid for an extra 10kg, so make sure you have something in writing, as their system is rubbish. I replied to the letter by email addressing it to the advisor who had written the previous response, only to get their standard we will respond in 28 days.

I had the same query, emailed them and got the following response:

Dear Mr J,

Thank you for your email regarding your forthcoming holiday to Aruba.

I can confirm that all bookings with Premium seats will continue to receive 23kgs per person checked in luggage allowance.

I hope that this helps and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Thank you for choosing to travel with First Choice and I hope that you go on to have a lovely time in Aruba.

As I am travelling premium to Cuba in a few weeks I thought I found try to find out definitely about the luggage allowances.
This is the detailed reply I received from Thomsons.

Dear Ms D

Thank you for your email regarding the luggage allowance.

I can confirm that following a recent review of our baggage policy for all Thomson & First Choice bookings made after 16th December 2010 a new policy will be in place. This business decision has been made to move our allowances in line with other industry operators and ensure that we remain competitive whilst still offering excellent value. Less weight on the aircraft means less fuel usage, which will in turn lessen our impact on the environment which is also an important benefit.

These changes will come into affect for all customers who book a holiday from 16th December 2010 departing after 1st May 2011. Bookings that have been made prior to this date will remain unaffected and the original allowance will be honoured. Customers who have booked Thomson and First Choice standard packages, including splash and kids club products will now receive a hold luggage allowance of 15kg. Customers who have booked Premier holidays with First Choice and Thomson will now receive a luggage allowance of 20kg rather then 23kg and for customers who have booked from our Small and Friendly, Gold, Holiday Villages, Thomson Families, Chic and Unique, Simply, Thomson Villas & Pools, Faraway Shores, Florida and Tropical products will all remain unaffected and will receive a 20kg complimentary allowance. For customers who book premium seating on their flight they will still be entitled to a luggage allowance of 23kg.

Please can you supply your booking reference and I will check your allowance.

The option of purchasing additional baggage allowance is available to all customers, with prices starting from £15.00 for an additional 5kg. Your baggage allowance can be increased either at the time of booking or by contacting our Customer Support Team on 0844 871 0879 after you have made your booking.

Thomson and First Choice recognises that this change will come as a disappointment to some customers, however the reduction is necessary in order for the company to offer the best possible prices within an increasingly competitive marketplace.

Kind Regards

" I booked on 14th December, honestly,so I get the original allowance -Oh no, you didn't....." - get the picture?? :rofl
