Everyone is worrying about premium but let's not forget the majority of Thomson airways long haul fleet has MORE premium seats than a 787. If anything nearly 20 passengers per flight will be upgraded. Yes the ex Britannia 767's have less premium, they can be configured to any seating config- they are more flexible than the ex-FC 767's we could see a(and the rumour is) a bigger premium cabin on the These aircraft whilst still maintaining 2-4-2 config in economy- to go someway to meeting the 291 seating plan on the 787.

My guess is that Thomson, until they have definite word from Boeing, would be restricting passenger load to cover the contingency of an aircraft change.

...but it might be too late....surely some of the 787 flights are fully booked already :que

The only good thing to come from this for Thomson passengers, is that the problem has occurred before Thomson took delivery; can anyone imagine what a mess it would have been if the 787s had been grounded in early Summer after Thomson had got rid of the "old" 767s?? :really

Hi,

New member here!

Hopefully you can help me, I am travelling from MAN-SSH-MAN in May and wondered:

- What aircraft will be operating - TOM 836
- I am due to pick my seats and have a two y/o travelling with us - any seat recommendations?
Do seats infront on the toilets / back row allow for full recline so she can play around without distrubing those beind us?

Many thanks
Ryan

Again this is a PR cock up by Thomson I cannot understand why they have the attitude of we have your money and hold all the cards.
Surely they can reconfigure the existing fleet of 767 to cover the extra Premium seats unless there is a problem with airframe that won't allow it ?
Yes it's not Thomsons fault the Dreamliner is turning into a nightmare but there are ways to solve the problems and good PR is not hard to do.
Always remember Thomson without our money your nothing we as customers pay your wages.

BY-TOM-AMM-FCA has already intimated above that this is what they might be doing with the ex Thomsonfly.

Sorry I never noted that so it seems it can be done.

...but if they reconfigure the ex Thomsonfly planes to increase the number of Premium seats ,surely the total no. of passengers carried will still be less than the 787s?

rynewman21,

Welcome onboard :tup
MAN-SSH-MAN (TOM836/7) should be operated by Boeing 757-200 or Boeing 737-800, you don't say what dates you are travelling. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below) including a link to seat plans. All seats offer the same basic facilities so it's personal preference really. Seats infront of the toilets do recline, but not quite as much as standard seats. Be aware the flushing action can get on your nerves after a while so some find seats around the toilets distracting.

The 787-8 are to be configured with 47 Premium Club seats and 244 Economy Club seats. The current ex-FCA 763's have 63 premium economy seats and 195 economy, the ex-TOM 31 premium economy and 252 economy. If the ex-TOM are reconfigured with 47 premium club seats, ie 3 more rows of premium will be needed to give enough seats, it'll give approximately 228 economy seats so that's not enough to cover the economy cabin. The only way I can see it working is if seat pitch in economy is reduced to say 31" so 2 more rows can be added to economy to give an extra 16 seats, giving 244 economy seats. Not ideal, but there may not be a lot of option.

The above is not to be taken seriously, we'll have to wait until March when a decision is being made and those on effected flights should be notified.

OMG !!! I could not imagine sitting in a seat with 31" seat pitch for 10 hours. I found the 33" pitch on Thomas Cook uncomfortable as you cannot do anything but sit straight and then when the seat in front reclines they just about have their head on your lap :yikes

I must say I will be happy with the ex FCA 767 if push comes to shove as they are still more comfortable than the TC Longhaul Airbus.........at the end of the day as long as I get to Mexico I am not too worried as I am sure Thomsons will do their utmost to make passengers as comfortable as they possibly can given the circumstances

Most scheduled airlines are 31" pitch in economy.

And it really is a truly ghastly way to start a holiday. No matter what size one is.

I’m a skinny little 5foot8 runt – and I have done longhaul 31 inches several times, and it is HORRIBLE!
BA – horrible. Monarch - even worse. Thomas Cook 767 longhaul just as bad.

First Choice broke the mould with their 767 offering way back 6 years ago which was great and still is the best way to do long haul charter economy. The only thing to come close to matching it is to fly scheduled economy on something like Qatar or Emirates.

FCA 767 is BETTER than the much advertised Dreamliner 787, since available width per passenger on the Dreamliner 787 has been REDUCED by over an inch to get the 9 rows in across the plane.
They do not tell you that in the ads!

Let's just wait and see what happens as there's nothing concrete at the moment and anything could happen in the next 2 weeks.

I've been across the Atlantic many times on aircraft with 31" seat pitch, and less and its not as bad as it sounds and was the charter standard (30") until First Choice raised the bar in 2006. Many of the scheduled airlines still offer 31" seat pitch but some have fitted slim line seats that gives more room for the same seat pitch, but I'd still take the ex-FCA's over many carriers. Roll on 4 weeks on Monday!

Being as I've never been on a Dreamliner, I wouldn't know whether the ex FCA 767s are better. Thousands of people everyday fly longhaul with 31" pitch. If it was so horrible you'd not see so many Florida holidaymakers choosing to fly Virgin and BA instead of Thomsons or Thomas Cook.

763 is the shorthand term for Boeing 767-300/ER. I always have a great time! I hope you get to where you're going and have a great holiday too.
