Value for money in Lake Comp...

The basic rooms are at the rear with not much of a view so are cheaper if you want lake views and balcony upgrade the rooms are more expensive, but who sits long in their room all day. Outside on the lake there is a nice swimming pool and bar with views across the lake all local wine beer and soft drinks included with the Shearings package from 8-30pm to midnight, you can also upgrade your drinks and meals if you like but we was happy with the silver package.

Hotel public rooms are old Italian decor, some of the cheaper rooms a bit worse for wear but all kept clean by the friendly cleaners. This is a big hotel so if anything not to your liking just ask they always sorted out within a reasonable time. As for the food, always a large choice.

If you want fine dining this is not for you.

Nice hotel .. Brilliant holiday

My wife and I booked our holiday through Barrhead company and we were lucky to get all-inclusive lake view on a special deal through a newspaper. The extra trips while there was well worth the money.. We got to go to St. Moritz and Lugano is a must also the trips to como outdoor market and to Milan where first class to.

The hotel and rooms where nice and clean up to standard requirements. The food was held in quite a big hall and there was plenty of food for all. The waiters where very quick and polite and you were no sooner seated then they arrived to ask you what kind of wine you would each like and where served with a jug full of your own choosing, it made me laugh a bit when they took the water away and replaced it with the wine. Our room had a balcony overlooking the lake and Bellagio on the other side of the lake.

There is a ticket office almost in front of hotel that you can buy a ticket for the boats that take you to Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio which are beautiful little villages situated at different parts of the lake but are all within 30 minutes of Cadenabbia, you can buy a day’s ticket or for the week which works out cheaper than buying each day and in my opinion is vital towards a great holiday at this hotel.

The entertainment was not the greatest the same guy playing and singing each night but hay as they say the crack was good. It made it all the pleasant that the party of people who was on the bus with us to the hotel all made friends and we sat and drank together each night after our days out.

The hotel itself was ok nothing flash but the views over the lake and the trips out and friendly staff made this a holiday really worth the money. Would love to go back one day.

We travelled as two couples and cannot fault the Shearings deal. The Reps were very helpful and the St Moritz trip is a must.

The hotel was jaded in parts and the meals were somewhat regimented but you quickly learn the ropes and the food was good. The hotel looks on to Bellagio and we wished we'd upgraded to a lake view room. There's ferry stop a few minutes away.

The entertainment was the same every night - Luigi and his organ - but our stay was all-inclusive so we coped.

To summarise, the hotel is three star and that's what you get. The food is good but vegetarians have to fight for variety. Overall, though, the holiday was excellent value for money

The Hotel we stayed in was The Britannia Hotel on a busy road overlooking the lake.

When we arrived we were put into a very small room for two adults , so we complained and was moved after three days to a much bigger room overlooking the lake.

The hotel was very clean and towels were changed everyday. The hotel staff were very polite.

The hotel food was very english but okay and there were two sittings as it is very busy but well organised.
