6,000 flights cancelled in US winter storms

Thousands of flights have been cancelled in the US as country is hit by more bitter winter storms.

A third of the country, from Colorado to Maine, is bracing itself as a major storm gathers in the mid-west.

According to flight tracker website, FlightAware, airlines cancelled 6,700 flights yesterday - one-fifth of all flights scheduled.

An additional 3,815 flights have already were grounded for today.

CNN meteorologist Rob Marciano has warned travellers to be prepared for as many as four days of serious storm conditions.
