I quite fancy a holiday in SA but are put off about the the reports of attacks on tourists. Is it safe to hire a car and drive along the coast etc.

If you know where you going its safe, but if you get lost you might get caught up in the wrong area.
Most attacks happen in certain areas which is normally where uninformed travellers stop or get lost and climb out the car for help.

What are you looking for ? Accomodation and the whole package ? do you just want to see the wildlife?
I had a great time in south africa - would recommend it to anyone. Just be careful.
