I thought the lady who runs this place was Greek (Cypriot?).
If she is still there (the Hippocampus is) then I know she was/is vegetarian, so maybe its the same person.

We used this restaurant during the day for snacks. The lady who appeared to be in charge was Cypriot/Greek. She was very chatty and obliging, she wanted you to enjoy the food and would try and accommodate whatever you wanted to eat.

I thought that the couple who owned this place were English but my Husband thinks that the man was English but the lady was Cypriot (It was a long time ago)!

If they are the same couple who were there in the late 1990's they will go out of their way to accommodate your friend. As Margaretcarroll says, it is a brilliant place to stop for snacks - very casual but very friendly and helpful
