Hi Tenerife 2003 Have seen deals for between £220 and £500 depending on Self catering, Half Board or All Inclusive for mid november. I am so glad you said Los Cristanos and Las americas have golden sand because my son was disappointed when I said the sand was black  I'm not really bothered about where to stay. The holiday will be mainly spent on the beach and around the pool as there are only the two of us, so as long as there are a few shops around it doesnt matter too much. The deals I've been looking at are for 3 or 4* hotels. Now I know to look for Los Cristanos and Las Americas, I will try looking again and come back on here for more advice once I have the names of some Hotels or apartments. Many thanks

Hi Pauline
Firstly the blsck sand is no different to the golden sand we see in the rest of the major tourist resorts. Apparently if anything it is better for you and has therapeutic benefits due to the volcanic origins of the sand. It looks different - darker than normal but in the main resorts in the south it is not actually black like it is at Playa de La Arena a bit further up the coast and Puerto de la Cruz in the north. The beach near to Los Cristianos called Playa de as Vistas is actually golden imported sand from the Sahara anyway and is one of the largest beaches in the south anyway.

Regarding the accommodation you can easily book rooms per unit regardless of the ages of the occupants and book your flights separately.

http://www.skyscanner.net will find the best deals for flights and there are any number of accommodation sites most of which are already advised on this site.

are a few to get you started

Depending on when you go in November and where from you can get return flights for around £100 and the price of your accommodation can be anything from £120 per week to £2000 depending as you said on the board and the quality.
Good luck

Thanks Andrea, planning this holiday was becoming a real headache because I had NO IDEA what Tenerife was even like never mind the hotels, apartments and beaches :? Now I have spoken to you and others on the forum, I am actually beginning to ENJOY the thought of booking and taking my son away. You have turned a giant pain in the neck into an enjoyabel undertaking, because now I know where to look and what to look for. Many thanks I will be returning frequently to the forum as and when I find deals to book to check them out first. Best wishes from Pauline

Am sure you will get several more replies and most will say a lot of the same thing. Especially regarding areas to look at. Slap in the middle of a HUGE area is the infamous Veronicas area of Playa de Las Americas. Unless you are young party animals intending to roll home at 4 in the morning you should try to AVOID this area. Los Cristianos and my favourite area Costa Adeje are far nicer. LC is a fishing village traditionally which has grown into a tourist haven over the last 25 years or so and is much quieter but no less enjoyable. Plenty of shops excursions bars restaurants to keep you occupied for several weeks. Same applies to Costa Adeje which is to the western end of town form San Eugenio area and Torviscas and onwards. Any of these areas are fine.

is a decent map. You really need to avoid the areas between Colon 1 and 2 to the right and Gran Tinerfe to the left. The resort extends quite a good distance to the west and particularly to the east so anywhere you find not immediately visible on the map is probably fine but wherever you get you will find someone on here who will have stayed there or nearby

And be careful not to get the upper side of the map above the white line which is the TF1 motorway. You will forever be climbing hills if you do.
