great idea for a thread

The village of Saligao is worth a visit, the church illuminated at night is spectacular.
Take a drive around Ponda and visit the Hindu temples.
Or go to Chandor and see the villages and portuguese mansions, have your own transport so you can stop when you want.
Or as eddie101 once said , just get lost anywhere you will find hidden gems everywhere. But it might help to have a guide book and map .

Well, you don't have to go too far to find interesting villages and great scenery, and a nice way to do this is get a mountain bike for the day like we did, plenty of flat roads and great when away from the coastal belt - just keep on riding and exploring, great fun.

i have notice most seem do do the same rounds not been rude. we just grab a taxi and say take us somewhere nice, or go have a meal down south colva, arrossim, majorde etc etc, just avoid the specialist chinese in panjim its not very good still under 25.00 for two people inc all starters main and drinks but in our opinion give it a miss isnt really worth it.
try the local worker cafe in panjim. a meal for 8 of us inc all drinks coffees 142 rupees the meal is loads of differant little things and little sweet buns well worth the taxi ride then you have to do the river cruise to dance it all off sighs oh i have to wait till 11 march to get there.

We started looking around again this year for some new secret places.

I love going down the back road to Anjuna from Arpora and round the back of Anjuna, there is still a village life element to it all and the occasional smell of a Feni stil weaves underneath the nostrils as you negotiate a palm tree stuck in the middle of the road and dodge the chickens and pigs before re fuelling the bike from a water bottle bought from a tiny roadside shop

If you visit Terekol fort by taxi or bike its a shame not to visit Reddi beach, its only 15 minutes or so past Terekol and well worth the visit. If you go take water as there are no shacks or shops. It is a beautiful tranquil beach. I know its not Goa but worth a trip.

I quite like the narrow road down the slope next to Mango Tree on Vagator beach road that leads to Chopora village and from there along the river there is a road that leads to Siolim Church past Mama's restaurant which is about a kilometer from the village.... a stop at mama's for a chilled beer and chinese food adds flavour to the trip...

We took a short trip to Shiroda, a small village, just North of Goa, in Maharashtra, with a long clean stretch of beach. We made a picnic of it, some chilled beers in an ice-box, cold lunch and swim gear. About an hour or so to the beaches - not a soul in sight. Just the sea and us. Beautiful.

Chorao/Divar Islands. Just get to the ferry.
