Hi all,

Im off to Vegas for the 2nd time next week, last time we done the helicoptor tour and landed on the canyon floor.

I'm thinking of doing it by road this time, and am actually thinking of driving myself, has anybody done this?

Would appreciate any tips or advice.

Cheers

I believe it's about a 5 hour drive each way so it would be recommended to have an overnight stay. I have read that Bright Angel Lodge is a good place to stay, but you need to book months in advance.

Here is a link to our trip in 2007. I didn't post it on here, at least I can't find it.

I hope the link is OK.

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Tusayan, and thought it was fine.

I've driven there 4 times. You can drive to different areas - the South, West or North rim.

The South rim is the most common and has probably the best views and as Luci said, it can be a 5 hr drive each way but then again I did it in under 4......but that was driving fast at times :tup
The West rim is closer, I think it's about 3 hrs, that's where the Skywalk is. Or, you can head north of Vegas going towards Bryce Canyon and you turn off to the North rim, can't remember exactly how long it took us but I think it was about 4hrs too. If you go north though, you can stop off in Mesquite and have a bite to eat and a gamble. (I won $700 in the Oasis casino there) :D
North Rim was a lot quieter than the South rim.

Cheers,

TC
