I haven't stayed at the Oriental but do stay at the hotel next door. The Oriental is in a pretty good spot in Nabq Bay directly outide the hotel you find lots of shops. There is a metro supermarket with everything you need as you come out of the hotel turn right and you will see it not even a 2 minute walk - we use this to buy bits to get small notes for tipping. Also a HSBC bank for changing money. Over the road La Strada with lots of familar names (starbucks, burger king) and also an English pub. Also Al Khan shopping centre which is all the Egyptian gift shops. Not too much hassle either they are pretty cheeky but just ignore and keep walking if you don't want the hassle and you will be fine. If you come out of the hotel and turn left you will come across many more shops until you come to the Jasmine Centre (about 10 - 15 min walk) which is a largish shopping and entertainment centre. Beach at Oriental is really nice as well, it shares the jetty with the hotel I stay at and this time we saw loads of fish and sea life from it.

Some say the area of Nabq is too quiet but I personally really like it. No mad nightlife but enough to wander around of an evening.
