We have just returned from Cyprus. We booked St Nicolas Apartments, Paphos, through Co-op travel with Escape Holidays. The info shown to us on the net said the apartment was a 'short stroll from the beach'. The complex also advertised resaurants, cinemas shops and much more. In actual fact the complex was still in the process of being built. There was no mention of building work. The road to the beach was still under construction. Even down this road the beach was approximately 3k. My daughter and I attempted to walk into Paphos using a different route. After walking for 30 minutes down badly lit, roads with not a soul around, we finally found a kiosk. We had to ask them to ring a taxi for us to take us into Paphos. Trying to get back to the apratment was equally difficult as the taxi driver had no idea where the St Nicolas complex was. We had to ring the apartment manager to explain to him how to get there. In all we spent 50 euros in the first evening and the next next day on taxis. The following day we went to the tourist information who gave us the phone number of the tourist inspectors as they didn't think these apartments were licenced for rental to tourists. This turned out to be correct. In fact the tourist inspector said that they would prosecute if the apartments continued to be let for holiday rental as the apartments were for residential use. I spent a small fortune ringing Escape Holidays hoping to be moved to different accommadation. They were extremely unhelpful. In the end we went around different hotels looking for a room. We finally found one (thank goodness for credit cards!). I now hope to get some compensation.
