Recently returned from what was the worst holiday experience ever had, not only was the villa awful it was burgled, I should have spotted the warning signs, holiday rep rushed to the villa safe when she arrived thought this was strange, window latches were inadequate which led to the burglary, police disinterested, was told burglaries in Majorca are very common, police dont bother taking fingerprints, seems they are use to this problem. So be warned, ask the right questions to your villa company, 1. Has the property ever been burgled? 2. Check the window/door locks, could they be easily broken into?
3. Get your complaints put in writing, if your not happy tell your rep? 4. Take photos. 5. Don't be fooled by the brochure hype, the pictures are easily manipulated to look amazing. 6. Ask about access, is the villa near a main road, is the access safe, some roads in Majorca are dangerous and would not be allowed in the UK. 7. Rats major problem, and a health risk, ask if the property is prone to rats in the villa or garden.
Most of all ensure you do not leave any valuables in your villa, i.e passports, travel documents, cameras, lock all windows, better still leave someone at the villa at all times, burglars know what properties are holiday villas these are targeted. But your holiday company WILL NOT warn you in advance.
