A lovely place to go and a lovely place for a wedding. It will be idyllic.

Nearest airport is Verona - about 30-35 minutes to Malcesine.

We were there last September and stayed in Garda. You can easily get around the lake using the boats or hire a car - we did both and got around well. There is a road all round the lake for travelling by car and the boats are frequent and easy to use too. the buses are frequent and easy too - there is a route that runs the east coast of the lake which is very frequent and reliable. We used it to go to Verona for the day.

A company to look at for packages is Inghams, who we went with. We met a couple there who were on the same package and were attending a wedding in Malcesine! - they used the boats, buses and taxis to get around.

You may not want a package if you want to stay in Malcesine for a couple of nights and then move on - but it may be a cheaper option particularly with the children.

Scheduled flights from UK to Verona tend to be limited to London although tour operator charters do serve other places. The nearest airport with scheduled flights from other UK airports is Milano Orio Al Serio - which is just south of Bergamo. The other Milan aiports of Malpensa and Linate aren't really suitable.

For English info about the airport and how to get away from it see http://www.orioaeroporto.it/Airpor/portalProcess.jsp?languageID=2 the link "Public Transports" includes car hire.

Information about bus services on the east side of the lake is at http://www.apt.vr.it/orari/index_orari.html and then click "Zona C" or click a letter and find the locality in the list. Malcesine is on route 62-64

Information on buses on the other sides of the lake and boats all over it is at http://62.101.84.174/trl_index.htm - the easiest way to do it is to click "Visualizza tutti gli orari" then the top link and then type in a place name.

As mentioned before flights to Verona are mainly from London. Us yokels fly from provincial airports to provincial airports.

We did Bristol-Bergamo last year for Garda.

You can get a coach from the airport to Bergamo city or Brescia (20 miles) and then get a train to Desansandro for local buses. The problem with this is that Trenitalia and the buses don't link up too well and you could find yourself waiting at a bus stop for a couple of hours.

You can get a bus direct from Brescia to the village you're staying at but as with the first option the timetable is not very good. Also the bus station is some way from the train station and you'll need to ask for directions.

I'd advise getting a hire car/people carrier and driving yourself to and around Garda. Just head for the right hand side of the lake.
