the bottom line is that the south is much quieter than the bustling north.

We prefer the south for the beaches but the north for the choice of restaurants.

We agree with Sam. Although we have never stayed in the South we end up getting taxis either to the South or the quieter Northern beaches. We stay in Calangute because of all the restaurants available to us in Calangute, Candolim and Bagga.

Im unqualified to comment really as ive only ever stayed in the South and visited the north (Panjim & Old Goa) but we prefer chilled so research told us 'go South' :sun2

It looks like Benaulim is much the same :) , but with the addition of lifeguard, did you notice if Little Tiger shack was up ? And there are some beautiful places in the North, as long as you avoid CCB
