Just to update that I have done a review on the hotel. We had a fantastic week and would stay at the Hotel Bansko again, but would probably go B & B rather than half board.

Many of us who have stayed in Bulgarian hotels would echo your quote above - I certainly wouldn't consider anything more than B&B.

Your review mentions cold/lukewarm food - this is, as you surmised, a 'Bulgarian thing'; hot food/drinks are traditionally believed to be unhealthy, so you have to 'educate' your hoteliers/waiters to the fact that you want your food to be served hot.
