Anyone care to help me with making a decision today re booking a Travel City Direct flydrive ??????
I am looking to go to Orlando next Feb for at least 14 days..I would have preferred 16 nights but it really looks like for the extra cost of the Virgin flights this will be a non runner.
This is my dilemma ..
Do I book with TCD today ???
We had a flydrive holiday with TCD last time we went to Orlando in Feb 2006 - I booked this in Mar 2005 which turned out to be one of their lowest offers all year for this FD (I kept checking ).
The cost for 2A /2C (economy car, which you never get, as they don't have any at Sanford - little tip for you !) was £1230...pretty good I thought ! But this was before the days of the big fuel supplements.
For the same package today, it will cost £1490..quite a bit of this increase is due to the high fuel supplement of £64pp, where as I think we only paid £15pp last time.
Now this is where it gets a little tricky ...if I book this today I won't have to pay the additional air tax of £20pp - TCD confirmed that they are not adding this tax to new or existing bookings only those made on or after Feb 1st, but as from tomorrow I will....but there again the fuel surcharge should be coming down soon should they not ????. And from past experience we had a good deal booking in March and I also have a gut feeling (please give me your views) that holiday prices are high in January as its one of the peak booking months
So, do I play safe, and book today, without the extra tax...and kick myself later if the price comes down. Or not book, and kick myself harder if the price goes up more Or, do I hold my nerve and book last minute ish..TCD had some cracking deals for this Jan / Feb just before Xmas.
My worry is for last minute is that I have already booked a 7 night Disney cruise for next Feb ...so we are fairly stuck to certain dates of travel within a few days, or so,... plus I would like to get our accommodation (probably a town house on a resort) sorted reasonably well in advance...
Well, what should I do today book it or not ?....you've got till 9pm guys to give me your opinions.
hi J,my advice would be to book it now to save the extra in tax and also you're committed to your dates, and then don't check the prices again!!!!!!!!!!!!whats the point because you'll just curse if it gets cheaper and kick yourself if it goes up!we've just had an email from virgin about the extra tax and its going to cost £100!!although we do get this taken off the next flights we book with them(and we do nearly always use them)but i'm still really annoyed! book and enjoy
definatly book it,its not worth the stress just to save a couple of hundred. mo.
already gone up by £90 that evening...the decision was made for me I guess.
Think I am going to keep monitoring the TCD site closely over the next few months and hope I can snag another great deal Feb/ Mar.....otherwise as the price difference is not as great as last time we booked ..the Virgin 16 night plan may become a bit more of a possibility...but I'll have to keep working on the other half..............
Thanks for your replies...I'm afraid I chickened out of booking in the end - especially when I found out the price had Think I am going to keep monitoring the TCD site closely over the next few months and hope I can snag another great deal Feb/ Mar.....otherwise as the price difference is not as great as last time we booked ..the Virgin 16 night plan may become a bit more of a possibility...but I'll have to keep working on the other half..............
I paid £190 for a flight 2 weeks ago and booked 2 weeks before departure date-that was with Travelcity.
That was everything-I was chuffed-I've never paid that for 5 years.
Interestingly, since 1st Feb, Travel City's price on their website at least, for the flydrive I was looking at booking for Feb2008, has not gone up
Though I usually find they give you a better price when you phone up
I'm watching to see what happens over the next few weeks now ...otherwise I might just chance a last minute deal...
I was told yesterday (yes I just got back from Florida yesterday and was straight on the phone for my next trip) is to keep an eye on the flights and book nearer to the time.
Straight out of the horses mouth!
So will hang on as I'm not back till June.
