There is a little cafe about 3 minutes walk from Vilabranca Apts called O Pinquin; a meal for 2 with wine (generally home-made pizas!) will cost about 30 euros. Down the road at Triangle restaurant it will be about 50 euros. However there is a mini-market next to O Pinquin where you can get the usual food stiff. Lagos is about 20 minutes walk downhill, although there is a free mini bus from Vilabranca Apts which will also bring you back. Again a meal for 2 in Lagos will be from 30 euros upwards. Try to get Alentejo Velho wine, its local (ish), cheap and nice.

Lagos is a nice quiet resort.

Hello, just seen this and I have to say that I went to Lagos last summer and never paid that much for food, we eat at good restaurants and had steak/fish a starter and a bottle of wine and never paid over 35 euros and if you eat chicken it is even cheaper.
Near the Marina there is a place called the Adega da Marina that is full most nights and you can see why we had a meal in there one night 1 fillet steak 1 sirloin steak/ salade and chips with wine and water 22 euros for 2.
you can eat well here if you keep to the back streets and get better meals and service as well, I know this was last year but they will not have put the prices up that much its only the pound to the euro that has made it go up.

Its good to know that there are reasonable prices in the Algarve, I dont mind paying for the decent food. Looks like I will have to look round at the different resorts. I need somewhere that will be fairly central that will also keep my daughter happy (flumes would be good) any advice on best places to go appreciated..

Regards

Hello ron, most of the water parks are away from the main resorts with most of them being along N125. Parque Adlantco is near Vilamoura, Zoo Marine is near Albufeira, The Big One is near Armacao de Pera and Slide and Spash is near Portimao. Most of them offer a bus transfer from the resorts for a all in price, you can get some good info on the site below.

I will take a look at the sites you have listed, away from the resort will be fine. Where have you stayed in Portugal (if you dont mind me asking)

Hello ron, we have stayed in Albufeira 4 times, Lagos once, Lisbon coast (Cascais/Estoril) once, Lisbon City 3 weekend breaks and this summer we are going Tavira. Also we have hired a car and gone along all of the Algarve Coast, inland and over to Spain from Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the ferry.

Hi there ! We went to Portugal last year and stayed in Lagos, and I have to agree with Dave - ! - My mum and I thought eating out was very cheap - We were eating out for about £12 each per night, including wine and the food was always fresh and delicious... We didn't have one bad meal the whole time we were there..

raymaher,
Look for a brand called Tower of London ( a good old-fashiohed Portuguese name ;) ) - It's the closest thing I've tasted to Gordon's at about a third of the price.

So you thought the prices I mentioned above were exhorbitant! check the real holidaymaker response above.
PT is not the cheap place it was 4 - 5 years ago but is still envisaged by tourists. Most supermarkets have prices which are similar to UK as have restaurants.
I have lived here 10 years (God is it that long!) and seen the very fast changes.

Just returned Friday and thought I'd share this snippet of info. We had a day out in Vilamoura and spotted on the harbour 'meal of the day' chicken piri piri €4.95. Hubby had one of those tiny bottles of fizzy water and myself a can of coke. When the bill came and they'd charged a total of just over €5 for the drinks. From then on we always bought a large bottle of water for the 3 of us with our meals €2.50
