I can't help with Vale de Carros but as for food and drink...

If you mean eating out etc, I'm afraid that with the current rate of exchange you won't be paying much different to what you pay in the UK. Most things are a little less expensive but you may need to shop around a little. Beware the obvious tourist trap restaurants that add 'extras' to your bill!

In the shops, most things are a little cheaperthan in the UK but I noticed on Monday that 1 litre of supermarket own brand orange juice had shot up overnight from 79 cents to 99 cents. Let's hope that sort of thing doesn't carry on!
