A timely warning as we are off to Euroland very soon and it may be this is happening further afield than Benidorm

Looking at the link mentioned above, I think it's actually much worse.
The picture actually shows a 2005 Turkish ONE lira coin.
Easily recognisable because they reversed the alloys in 2009.
Current Turkish one lira coins have the brass type alloy as the OUTER ring.

And if you get stuck with the older type with the silver outer ring you will find that nobody will accept them - they will be politely declined as "sorry old money"
So they are effectively worth ZERO!
So not just to watch for in Benidorm - watch out you don't get stuck in Turkey also.
