this hotel is classed as 4 star. the public areas are definately 4 star. the carpet in the corridors leading to the rooms was threadbare and covered in bleach stains, the plaster on the walls was breaking up and the rooms were basic. all areas apart from public areas could do with a bit of tender loving care. whilst the food was good quality it was invariable cold but a microwave was provided. the food was cold for all three meals. we tried going in to the dining room as soon as it opened but the food was still only warm. having said that the meal for new years eve was supurb and could not have been bettered.
the location was excellant and the staff were definately 4 star
i would only visit this hotel if it had a renovation or downgraded to a 3 star with the price accordingly reduced

Entering the hotel we found it to be bright and very clean, however the reception staff were not as polite as we have experienced in other hotels. We found them very abrupt and not very approachable, with the exception of one evening receptionist, who was very helpful.

The room was very clean and there was enough space for the two of us, but the bathroom was very small, and they were very stingy with the amount of towels.

The restaurant was also clean, the food was well prepared and plentiful, and our only complaint was that it was generally not very hot.

The location was good for the beach, good if you wanted a drink (and have your ears blasted off!!).

The entertainment was not to our taste, but the elderly people who were staying there seemed to be having a great time!

We would not stay at this hotel again...not because of the hotel...but because we did not like Benidorm in general, there was very little to do for non-driving holidaymakers.

We stayed at Hotel Diplomatic in Benidorm during August 2004. The hotel was impressive when you walk through the sliding doors. Reception all marble effect, spacious, bright and very clean.

Rooms very small. Had two small children under 2, just about enough room for a cot. Decor could be improved and the shower was terrible. We was on the ground floor looking over the patio area round the pool plus over looking high raising residential (scruffy) flats. It was clean enough sheets changed regularly and towels changed every day. Pool area was very small and cramped. It was hard for us to get by the childrens pool. Due to the position of the pool and patio area the sun disappeared quickly about 4.00pm.

Hotel location was brilliant. Just a short walk to the old town and on the other side 5 min walk to all the english bars called the Square. 5 min walk to Lavente beach which very busy all the time but nice to stroll down the promenade.

Hotel food was excellent. We could not fault the quality or choice. Each day (Lunch and Dinner)was different. Breakfast was continental and english cooked (scrambled and fried egg, very nice). All the waitresses were very friendly and made us feel welcome (especially the children). There was a problem with the restaurant atmosphere though. Hotel was mostly Spanish guests so there was alot of queue jumping and rudeness. Tables and chairs were tight so there was not much room to carry your plate to your table. We made sure we was first sitting to avoid the spanish rush at 8.30 - 9.00 for dinner.

The staff was friendly enough. A few times though at reception they kept a few of us waiting for about ten minutes before they acknowledged our queries. Which I found annoying.

The hotel entertainment was not much to our taste. There was a piano player in the lounge after dinner, which was good. The cabaret acts at night was quite good to watch but the music was all mainly Spanish. No engish music at all so we went our of the hotel every night. This was all based outside round the pool area and very noisy up to 12.30, because our ground floor rooms was next to the pool, it was a nightmare to sleep.

During the day round the pool the DJ blasted his music very loud and played competition game (the same game everyday (yawn yawn)). One time we had to move our sunbeds because he moved his mobile speakers (could have moved them anywhere) next to our sunbeds and played the music that loud it made our ears ring that we had to move. Can you imaging having to move 2 children and towels etc. We was not impressed at all.

The inside pool, jacuzzi and gym was really smart and impressive but very disappointed when we found out we had to pay extra to use it. We thought it was part of the package for hotel guests.

Overall This hotel was good, very nicely presented, Staff nice, location brill and food excellent but we will not be back. We have been to better hotels.

We stayed at the Diplomatic from 7th to 17th December 2002.

Location is excellent, in the Levante area, two blocks back from the beach. Within easy walking distance of both the old and new towns. Ample restaurants and bars in the immediate area, yet quiet enough to get a good night's sleep.

Reception area is impressive. Large and comfortable, ample settees , tables and chairs, beautiful floral arrangements. A locked left luggage area to one corner which can only be opened electronically by staff behind reception. The staff here are first class. Nothing is a bother.

A large very comfortable lounge with bar service where a pianist plays a grand piano most evenings. A small friendly bar off to one side of the lounge. Excellent staff and reasonable prices.

A smaller lounge with a dance floor is where the nightly entertainment takes place. Although the duo's and acts were good, this area is mostly geared up for Spanish couples who love ballroom dancing. They are allowed into the hotel after 9pm. This lounge is next to the indoor pool. There was a smell of chlorine lingering everytime we went in.

The restaurant is large and again well furnished. The food was good, varied, plentiful and well presented. I put 5lbs on while I was there Staff in here were very efficient and most of them friendly. I say most because there were two who obviously didn't like us Brits. However the rest made up for them.

There are only two lifts so it sometimes takes a while to catch one.

Bedrooms are a good size with nice furnishings. Comfortable beds, lot's of wardrobe space and the usual TV,mini bar, safe, telephone etc etc. Bathrooms large and attractive with hairdryer. Balconies large with nice furniture. Cleaning was excellent. The maid even cleaned the rails on the balcony every day. Towels thick and fluffy were changed daily. If you want morning sun ask for a pool view. Afternoon sun is on the other side.

The outdoor pool is small although there is plenty of room to sunbathe. There is also a small children's pool.
We didn't use the indoor pool, there was a charge , plus we didn't like the smell.

Overall this is the best hotel we have stayed at in Benidorm.
Immaculate throughout. 50/50 British and Spanish, middle aged upwards.( But then so is Benidorm in winter).

We will certainly go back.
