Located on Spain's east coast, the Costa Blanca starts at the towns of Denia and Javea in the north and stretches 124 miles down to Guardamar and Torrevieja in the south. While Alicante may be the region's biggest city, it's best known for Benidorm, a tourist mecca since Spanish tourism began.

The coast's white sandy beaches and clear blue seas remain the key attractions while the bars and clubs, and especially those in and around Benidorm, are particularly Brit friendly. Benidorm is also a favourite with the family market, largely thanks to its safe atmosphere and the amount of additional activities, including the Terra Mitica theme park, on offer. Other attractions on the coastline include the bays and towns of Altea and Calp.

Those of a slightly more adventurous nature can travel to the region's mountainous interior where medieval towns and fortified villages make for ideal holiday snaps. Picturesque towns on the coast include Villajoyosa where the beauty of its Old Town is matched by the quality of its chocolate.

The Costa Blanca is also becoming increasingly popular for its golf courses, with more than 15 along the coast where a round can be booked by Brits. The main airport serving the region is at Alicante while visitors will find both buses and local cabs are many and good value.
