Terry Whittle visited here on November 2009
Puerto Rico is a purpose built tourist resort which has sprung up during the last 25 years or so. The old resort centre is getting a bit \'tired\' now and could do with a facelift, and is put to shame by the newly developed facilities just up the road at Playa Amadores. Even so, the endless variety of bars and restaurants on offer means that you could spend half the year there and still not get round them all, and no matter where you try, the quality of the food is consistently good - it has to be in order to survive the competition. The beachfront restaurants at Playa Amadores are especially good.
Despite the presence of the many bars, there ...
is no obvious \'lager lout\' element evident in Puerto Rico - certainly nothing like you might find in Playa del Ingeles or South West Tenerife.
The only real annoyance is the presence of the Anfi Beach reps along the beach front in the old town. They home in on pasty-skinned newly arrived Brits like wasps round a jam pot, and you need to be quite assertive in rejecting their advances - assuming you\'d rather not be whisked off to view their resort (which is beautiful, to be fair, bit attendantly expensive, too).
Both the old and new resorts are kept clean and the beaches, both man made, are very good, with Amadores being the prettiest and Puerto having more character, with the marina and quayside for added interest/boat/fishing trips.

Gillon family visited here on October 2009
The location was fantastic being a stone throw away from the beach and having shops at either side and also places to eat. The commercial centre with all the bars, places to eat, shops and night clubs etc. was only about 10 minutes walk. Being our 9th time in Puerto Rico we eat out every night at San Miguel in the commercial centre what a fantastic place, lovely staff and amazing food, yes you have to wait for a table but that obviously says that the place is liked by many. We spend the evenings in Piccadily music bar and Bora Bora both wonderful and the staff are extremely friendly. Taxis are very cheap and can be found at the ...
taxi rank beside the commercial centre and also down the beach or up at the europa centre. There are many men trying to sell you sunglasses, watches, toys etc. this can be annoying but they will try to have a laugh with you. The weather has been amazing every time we have been and this year it was 32 degrees! Big Red the speed boat is 20 euros per child and 30 euros per adult, go on it! you can find it down at the harbour and it is the most amazing experience ever. We were very sad to have to leave this time as it is such a wonderful place.

This was our first visit to Puerto Rico and it wont be our last. We were staying close to the Europa Centre with its many bars, restaurants and shops.
We ate in several places and have no complaints with any of the restaurants. El Toro Negro is worth a visit for its Steaks, Gran Hong Kong for Chinese, Lord Byron for the Chicken breasts and puddings and Flicks for breakfast. These four were among our favourites but there are many more to try and enjoy.
We spent a lot of time in xtreeemz bar in the Europa Centre as it was the sort of fun pub that suited us down to the ground.
Puerto Rico itself is a very clean and ...
pleasant resort. The residents are very friendly and helpful. The beaches are clean, but we had to get a taxi back up to the apartments.
We did do the mini golf up by the Europa Centre which is good fun and fills in a bit of time. In short give Puerto Rico a visit its worth it.

matty visited here on August 2009
the resort was very clean and tidy same with the beaches where you could chill out on the sand or pay for a sunbed & parasol about 5euros
You can walk only saw far out in the sea as there is a rope barrier stopping you going to far out
There is plenty of places to eat and drink both in the bottom shopping area and the Europa center with plenty of shops that are tax free
Spent most of the time in the Europa center at Barbacoa and Xtreeemz bar, Barbacoa has entertainment on every night has tribute acts to Michael Jackson, Abba, the Drifters also drag artist. It also has 6/7 different TV\'s to watch your favourtie sports. Xtreeemz very ...
cheap drink only 95cence upto 6:30pm everyday, after that still very cheap, Russ the Dj,will make your night a memorable one, it\'s guaranteed, had some very great nights in there, Thursday\'s is when Abbalicious is, and every Friday is fancy dress. Can\'t wait be to back next year.

Puerto Rico is arranged over a series of hills and can be quite inaccessible in parts. The nearby Europa Centre is a waste of space - a far better commerical centre in town. Several bars, resturants and shops all in one complex - quite lively - and has a nice vibe to it. Unfortunately - also very competitive - thought I had stepped into a Soukke at one point - because you\'re hassled by the owners to come in! Very good Chinese restaurant here - serving 98 dishes for 5.5 Euros. Taxis and buses also cheap - which helps you get around.
The highlight of my break was a trip to Puerto Mogan - very pretty. Shame the rest of the coast wasn\'t the same...!

Stuart visited here on July 2009
Puerto Rico is superb, always clean and tidy and plenty to do day and night.
After visiting here for the past three years I was a bit saddened by how quiet it was this year, it seems every bar and eatery is feeling the credit crunch at the moment, I have never seem a resort so quiet in July, for the first three days we were the only family at the hotel pool!

My only gripe would have to be the Anfi Touts and reps, even after seeing them countless times they still chase you down the street waving leaflets in your face and will not take no for an answer, Please Puerto Rico Officials, do something about them and stop them ...
upsetting visitors who pay good hard earned money to come to your lovely resort.

In short if your thinking about visiting here, Go, you will have a blast!

Positives for the resort, Euro Centre (top of the Hill) has some good places to eat, and caters for all needs from great food @ Lord Byron & the Tavern, €40 to €50 for a family of 4.

Too the spectator sport that is eating @ Flicks, you have to see it to believe it. Everything is €6, but there are constant queues to eat there in the evening, and people literally wait looking over your shoulder encouraging you to finish so they can eat.

One thing to note of the EuroCentre @ the top of Puerto Rico, is there are many empty shops, so don\'t be surprised at the insistence of the locals asking for you to eat there. ...

The Beach @ Amadores is just €2.50 in a taxi, and the same for an umbrella on the beach, the sand is crushed coral (it\'s like sand) and it\'s very nice to spend a few hours there, and nearby shops and places to eat with reasonable prices to say where you are.

Finally the views from the Altamar are beautiful.

A resort I do enjoy visiting.

The McGee's visited here on June 2009
There were lots of bars and restaurants very close to the apartments, some more expensive than others however we found a really good and reasonable bar called Harbour Lights, good chinese, also in the town centre which is only a short walk way an english pub/restaurant called Churchills, the portions were huge and nice and very reasonable with a wii for the kids to play to allow you to have a quiet half hour (the pasta dish was served in what can only be described as a sink it was that big), only downside was the time share people, but managed to get a route that didn\'t come across too many

Puerto Rico is a lovely, cleanly resort with a lot to offer for those who are looking for lazy days by the beach / pool, good food + great nightlife.

The beach is a 10-15 minute walk from the Centro Commercial / McDonald\'s where you can hire two sunbeds + a parasol for €8.50. If you don\'t fancy walking to the beach you can get a taxi for around €4.

For those of you who are self catering there are many different shops where you can get your everyday essentials like Spar + Netto, I\'d reccommed you shop around a little cause Spar can be a little expensive sometimes.

I\'d reccommed The Royal Oak, the little Chinese restuarant (upstairs from The ...
Royal Oak next to Dicey Reilly\'s), San Miguel restaurant + La Cabańa for food + Harley\'s Bar, Bar Bhudda + Joker\'s Disco for your nightlife.

touts are a major problem in puerto rico trying to get people to visit anfi and the market. found them sometimes aggressive and as they were all english could not understand how they did not know the meaning of the word \"No thanks\". Heaven on a Saturday and Sunday though as no touts about all day.

Lesley Bradley visited here on March 2009
Puerto Rico is a bustling place at night time. From the apartments you cab go to the town centre by free bus and cab back will cost around 3 Euros. Ther are many places to eat but its all in one complex. Not really my cup of tea. I would have loved to have sat in a typica Spanish bar drinkig wine, but could not find many bars like this. There were many Irish bars, bars with karaoke, Elvis impersonators, other live acts but nothing typically Spanish at all. Its very busy and noisy in the \'town centre\'. Therre is a smaller complex 10 minutes walk from Altamar with bars and restaurants, not as bustling so we tended to spend ...
our evenings there.
The beach at Puero Rico is fine but Amadores is beautiful! So peaceful. Good food restaurants also on the beach. However, you have to pay 50c to use the loo.
Be careful you don\'t get swamped by reps trying to get you to go to Anfi. They will do their upmost to get you to buy timeshare. Be warned! We hired acar and got out and about. The roads can be quite scary at times, but hey!! we survived it!! We will probablt return to Gran Canaria one day, but try a different resort. All in all it was a very welcome and enjoyable break.

The beach at puerto rico was beautiful with plenty of sunbeds(3e) and parasols (1.5) there were also people offering fruit and massages too. there are plenty of restaurants on the beach to get some takeaway food to eat on the beach and the beach is man made so is very safe. at the harbour on the right of the beach there are some restaurants, the rhodes palace is lovely and Harbour Lights has Fantastic food and drink for really cheap prices, they also show all sport events and british soaps! In the shopping centre there are many shops, arcades, restaurants and bars, definately try the shamrock for cheap drinks and dont try the chinese buffett its a waste of money ...
as th food not that great. also there\'s the tropicana bar they show all the sports and have 7 different screens to watch different things on. just up past the shopping centre is a water park and on the way to the beach there are crazy golf and bumper cars

I like peurto rico because of the views and the man made beaches close by (by taxi) like amadores and anfi which are magnificent and safe for kids. Peurto rico beach is a litle dull in my view. Lots of bars, resteraunts in the shopping centres for adults though not as good as the ones in playa del ingles

Puerto Rico itself was a lovely place to visit, apart from the British workers who interrupted your visit to a Spanish island by calling you \"Darling\" and \"mate\" and begging you to buy trips off them. My advice, go to the beach and use the touts, we had a great trip on a catamaran that we booked on the beach for 45euros.

The beaches are good quality but amadores beach is far better than Puerto Rico beach, even though they are only a mile apart.

Just returned from PR and have to say we would return, there is something for everyone young and old, theres plenty of places to eat and drink at and to suit every budget, would recommend the San Miguel restaurant nice food and reasonably priced. The only thing we did not like was being hassled by PR\'s to eat in there place and those timeshare touts are a pain(Anfi) just tell them you already been and they will not hassle you.Amadoress beach was lovely nice walk from round PR on the walkway, just watch out for the potato men (con men) I cant believe how many people fall for this scam, weather was fantastic and no doubt will return in the near future

Sarah Power visited here on September 2008
I have been coming to Gran Canaria for 8 years and i love the atmosphere in both Playa Del Ingles and Peurto Rico. The place is friendly and the bars are good. If you like Live music head to Magowan\'s barin the commercial centre - most people head to Scruffy Murphys, the Harp or Molly Malones but Magowans has better music, is more intimate and more friendly - musch like being in your favourite local at home. If you go in more than once you are treated like long lost friends and it is typical great irish hospitality! The Harp, Scruffys and Molly Malones do not treat you with the same friendliness although the music is ...
ok (just not as good as Magowans). Magowans is the only bar on the island who play live music only and do not rely on backing tapes to sing along to!
Ther is a SUBWAY rolls takeaway in the iresort which do lovely rolls if you are peckish and there is a vast array of restaraunts. I tried to vary where i ate every night and did not have a bad meal once. Although some of the restaraunts right on the harbour tend to be alot dearer - stick in the commercial centre as they are all in competition with one another and are priced more reasonably! Have a nice time!
