imho, dont think it would push erosion further towards Candalim, as the main problem is that the River Princess is stopping all the sand coming in and the water level is higher causing more erosion, as you move away from the Princess towards Candolim and Calangute these areas are still getting normal sand and water levels, it does make you laugh though seeing a JCB digging up the sand, its like big toy's for big boy's, but cannot see them working everyday as some times the waves are too rough and dangerous even the JCB would have to retreat to a higher level.

Hi sfelts

Thanks for the update, it is good to hear they are trying do some thing about the erosion other than just talk about it but it would not surprise me if the river princess broke in half this monsoon

Been down to beach this morning to see how the work was progressing and it's not good news, the eco friendly sand bags have been breached by the tide and Palm and Sands has lost the remaining garden and eroded to the metal stair structure and has closed for business, normally open all year round.
And next door at Shiroda the new replacement ampitheatre and sea wall defence has collapsed and they where pulling the remaining structure down with ropes this morning as the rest is likely to fall and is a danger to passers by.
The work is planned to finish on the 8th December 2009, so the JCB digger will still be there 2 months into the new tourist season cannot see much space for the workforce, JCB, Giant sand bags to share with Shacks, tourists and sunbed's, looks like that stretch of beach could be lost completly soon and end up another Coco beach, its a shame and we still have the roughest sea's of August to come.

I am so sad about the Palm and Sands because we went there a lot during our first trip to Goa. We loved it because it was so pretty and tranquil. If we found the beach too hot we would go there for lunch and sit in the shade and just chill.

We have been trying to make up our minds as to whether or not to stay in the north on our next trip (we haven't been up north for about 4 years). One of the reasons for returning to the north was that we wanted to go to the P & S again.

We certainly won't be going there if there is going to be a JCB there when we arrive (4th Dec).

That's such a shame, I used to love the Palms & Sands... used it a lot when I first discovered Goa. I suppose the Marquis Beach Hotel is suffering too!

Talk about stable door and horse, typical ham fisted Goan effort. After several years of increasing devastation to this stretch of the beach, when nothing positive was done to halt it, why wait till the onset of the monsoon seas, to attempt to position their sand tubes? Surely this type of work should have been attempted long before June. Most tourists who use this stretch of beach are for the most part gone by late April. Anyway since when does inconveniencing tourists come into their thinking?. Of course the elephand in the room lies as usual just offshore, as long as the River Princess remains in residence, nothing anyone can do, will stop the continuing destruction of the beach. Alan

Very true, can't imagine Sinquerim beach lasting much longer... then what? Guess they will move the RP after the 'horse has bolted'.

Yes very much a case of too little to late, when they first started laying the sand tubes I thought it may work, but after several strolls along that stretch at high tide the waves are still going over the tubes and still hitting the bank and also the workers and the JCB can now only work at low to medium tides at high tides the JCB is taken off the beach, maybe afraid that it would join the princess for company, this I would imagine would delay the timescale of the work well past December and it seems only temporary, what is needed beside's removal of the princess would be a proper sea defence wall, maybe the Taj and Mr Kingfisher would like to help as sooner rather than later they are next to feel the brunt of the sea and lose what they have, already the steps to the Kingfisher Villa has gone and the Taj has lost over 50 metres of grounds, the jogging path along the coast is no more and the underground pipes are fully exposed not looking like a 5 star complex, but as many have said they will leave it too late and lose everything and then you can never get the beach back anything like Big Neil's photo's.
