Wales sounds great and it's definately made it to my list of places to see before I pop my socks. But you must understand that I am in Egypt for the next couple of years and then I'll be away to Kazakhstan for a while. But, believe me, Wales is on the list.

Liverpool, what can I say. Home of one of the finest football teams in history (anywhere that shares it's heritage and culture with Ireland deserves a visit). But don't be to fast to promote the scouseness. I have met some very nice people from Liverpool, but I have also met the famous John Toohey (mind you, Sharon's a canny lass).

On a serious note, it's admirable to see someone who is obviously proud of their city and their heritage. It's good that my American friends can read this thread and see how much loyalty we feel towards our own regions.

Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is so beautiful it's a range of hills and if viewed from the north you can make out a figure of a a man (you can make out the boots, arms, legs, facial features) lying down in the landscape of the hills. It's lovely walking the hills too.

Also Terella Beach (northern Ireland) miles of walking, sparse and quiet.

Newcastle (northern Ireland) seaside town, funfair etc.

If they are thinking of heading down to the south-east as far as Kent, I can highly recommend a visit to Dover Castle and the war-time tunnels cut into the cliffs used by Sir Winston Churchill. Also, a visit to Canterbury Cathedral and the area of the town immediately surrounding it should be interesting to them, given how much the Americans love history.

Am just north of Edinburgh in Fife. The east neuk over this way is worth a look if they're in this part of the world as is Saint Andrews. Personally, I find loch ness very twee and geared to foreign tourists. Culloden on the other hand, fantastic! Atmosphere. Hairs standing up on the back of your neck. The cairns of the clans on the edge of the moor etc. Most beautiful places for visiting Scotland I'd say are way up on the north and north west coats. Though Oban and Fort William are very pretty on the west but lower. Oban affords trips to the islands such as Mull and Iona (both utterly stunning.)

Anyway, if I can help out in any way or find out any info - festival stuff, accommodation etc for Edinburgh, let me know.

Just to be picky Elaine28 says that Wales is part of the U.K.

Sorry but it may surprise you but it isn`t. Wales is part of Great Britain but not the united Kingdom because we are a Principality in our own right.

I always thought that it was "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" - or am I mistaken? If Wales is part of GB then, in that case, it would be part of the U.K.

And technically speaking Elaine 28 is correct. Although Wales is still a Principality in its own right as has been mentioned.

There are also some beautiful beaches and scenery in Northumberland, and when they are in Scotland Glencoe should really NOT be missed out, though at this rate they`ll need at least 6 months to see enough!

2 great websites, hope we can get up to Glencoe again this year, and if we do, hope the sun shines for a change, although grim weather does rather bring the stories of Glencoe more to life.

I just love Glencoe,the scenery is something else and it's so eerie! There really is quite an atmosphere. I'm planning to go up again really soon...in the next couple of weeks. Will take my mum, as it reminds us of my late Dad and his lovely Highland accent. (My family surname is Campbell...so I'd better watch there aren't any MacDonald's about :wink:

)
