In years gone past on booking a holiday, the first decisions were which destinations to discount this time round, Next you had to look at all the resorts and find the ideal one for you, and finally which hotel. Most of this was done by going through the mound of travel brochures you picked up from town and hoping the TO had given a true description. Nowadays we worry more about safety and once favourite destinations may be discounted right away. Then we have so much information online that it should be easier to make the right decision. Or is there just too much online info that it takes longer to make a choice? Do you yearn for the "good old days" where choices were easier to make or do you love the fact that you don't have to rely on brochures now for your information?

I do the same as i did years ago and still use travel,agents although i research the hotel on line rather than the secret Gazzette in the library.
After being all over the world we returned to Spain 4 years ago and thats where we go now.
Not being able to,go to Egypt or Tunisia in winter we just go to Spain now.
Thank goodness Thomson give me the web price!

My floor used to be littered with holiday brochures on the day I was choosing our next break. I'd then sit with a pen & paper narrowing my choices down. The list growing endlessly longer. Comparisons were made with each qualifying hotel receiving a tick.

You only had the brochures photographs to rely on & many a hotels pool had shrunk in real life 😁.

Once my decision was made it was off to the travel agents.

Tbh looking back now I think I found it more stressful.

Don't think I've depended on a TO brochure for 10 or 11 years (altho' it doesn't stop some of the operators sending me endless stuff in the post -are you listening SAGA/Travelsphere/Kuoni?) Haven't booked in a TA shop since 2004.

I find it considerably less stressful using the web site search engines combined with reviews on sites various - I work out expected true costs using simple spreadsheets -then book!

We tend to go the same place every year so don't have to make too many decisions, other than do we take the overnight ferry or stay in Portsmouth and get the early ferry. One year though we couldn't go to France because of diary constraints and the holiday was chosen based on where we could fly to for a fortnight from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Prestwick within a very small time window.

Last time I looked at a brochure or went into a TA must have been in the 1990's. In the past on some of my longhaul holidays I occasionally used a TA to do the bookings for me, though I would have worked out all the routing, even times of planes but would then put it in the hands of a specialist TA. The last few years of my longhaul holidays though, flights, hotels and car hire were all booked by me on the internet.
Now I'm no longer travelling longhaul I use a variety of means of booking holidays, mostly doing the work myself. occasionally with a TA, but always on the internet.
