                Hi Oneilly
We stayed in Kalamaki a couple of years ago and used Merlis car hire. I don't think we booked beforehand as we went early in the season but we got there and arranged for a Hyundai Atos. What we actually got was a Hyundai Getz and it was brand new! No-one else had it before us. They delivered it to our apartments and collected it even though the office was only 200yds away. The staff were english. I had read several reviews recommending this company on http://www.justzante.co.uk/. There is a link to Merlis on this website. We were very satisfied.
As regards the driving, the roads are not brilliant in places. You just need to be careful and not in too much of a rush then it will be fine. Some of the Greeks go a bit fast. We always get a car and enjoy driving around. The beaches on the Vassilikos peninsula are superb. You just have to have a laugh at some of the things that happen it's no good getting worked up. One night we went to Aghios Sostis for a meal. It was dark when we returned and hubby was driving carefully watching the verge. What neither of us realised was that he had gone down a side road and before we knew it there was water glistening in front of us and we were stopped on the beach! We just sat there and laughed like mad. He blaming me for navigating and me blaming him for driving. later in the week we realised we had been on the beach at one end of Laganas which vehicles did cross.
I hope you have as much fun as we did!

Hi we have been to Zante several times and Kalamaki last year. My hubbie drives every year and doesn't find it a problem. Its a lovely Island to explore. We hired ours with Merlis Car Hire on the Kalamaki road to the beach. We didn't have any problems and the service was excellent. There are many many car hire places and I am pretty sure you will get a similar deal in all of them.

Sarah
