This year will be our first year in Algarve. We are trying to find some decent apartments, prefably central Albufeira, so that our two 16yr old lads can wonder off on their own for a couple of hours during the evening without me worrying about them crossing dual carriageways etc!

Try Albufeira Jardim. You can walk down into the old town in about 10 minutes without going anywhere near dual carriageways or busy roads. My golfing friends stay there. It has a heated outdoor pool and all the usual amenities but as I said it's only ten minutes walk into town along un-busy well lit roads. In town there are more bars and restaurants than is good for you and there are some smaller establishments before you get there and very close to Jardim 1.
The beaches etc are the same distance along more or less the same route.
Apparently alpharooms.com often offers the best rates rather than booking direct with the hotel!
