We went to France August 2004 with 'Vendee-gites.com' after seeing an advert in Chez nous. The villa was awful. Owner was on site but was unable/unwilling to to anything about it. The owner of 'Vendee-gites.com lived an hour away but avoided calls and would'nt come out to see us. We asked to be moved but he told us his other properties were full. On returning home I wrote and asked for some sort of refund but was told that I had to approach the owner - of course he didn't respond. I then contacted Chez nous who told me that they were just a classified directory and had no responsibility to us. Is there any other way I can tackle this. I feel very upset that we have been duped in such a way. We have two small children and felt very isolated. Any suggestions?
Sorry to hear you had a bad holiday...if the gites are a member of gites in france report them and will be investigated and may loose their''star rating''...also try reporting them to their local tourist board and the local mayor at the town hall who will definately frown as it affects his tourist industry and reflects on his area.
It wont get you compensation but will stop other people being treated badly.
