Hi Jeroen. We also have a home in Datca but will never consider living there full time. Our reasons being we are able to visit often during the nice weather and that is enought for us. Datca is a very quiet place during the winter and can be very cold, wet and stormy. The areas I love such as the harbour become quite desolate during the winter. Our children are past school age now and are at university but we would never have taken them there to live as children. All of the Turks I know send their children away to school, mostly private schools in Izmir. There are British and other Europeans living there full time, mostly retired people but even so many of those go off elsewhere during the winter. Many of the Turkish business owners also shut up shop and go back to the cities during the winter. All of my neighbours vanish during September/October. As much as I love Datca and I visit for a week or two during winter to enjoy the walks and scenery, I would hate to spend a whole winter there. Other things I would miss would be cinema, theatre and concerts, shopping and all the other things I take for granted in UK. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do.

That's spot on jmk one of my relatives and his wife was thinking of retiring to datca but after they rented there for a year to get a taste they went crazy with boredom and hated the wet windy weather in the winter! A nice enough place to visit for a few days but i've been told even a holiday in july or august can be a bit boring.
