We did the jungle book trip last year. You stay overnight in mud huts at elephant camp. Cant remember seeing lots of spiders but there were loads of black ants. the first hut they gave us had an ants nest but as soon as we mentioned it they changed us straight away.Everyone had a brilliant time on this trip you do the waterfalls and see the monkeys.The spice plantation and the village shanti. if you go take some sweets for the children of shanti. the children sing for you. The elephants were fantastic and there wasn't one person didnt enjoy this trip when we went.
we got back to the hotel absolutely shattered but so glad we went.

I went to Goa in November this year and went on the jungle trip mentioned above. I booked it via our First Choice rep (£70 per person) but the company they used was called SITA Travel.

It is excellent - you get to see and experience loads but I did see a few large spiders. The huts have grills instead of windows, and there was a spider on the grill in the bathroom during our stay, and there are large webs in most of the trees at the camp. I don't like spiders but I just tried to be brave and it is totally worth it to bath the elephants etc.

we booked through holiday rep (jewel in the crown) cost about 72 pound per person. its a 2 day trip with overnight stay in mud huts. All food is included. we enjoyed the goan breakfast of samosas etc. it made a change from tea and toast at the hotel. there is a bar at the camp so you can buy afew beers for singing round the camp fire.

l stayed at Calangute last March ..and saw an elephant 2 times ..l ran half way down the street to catch up with the monks who had the elephant ..got my pic taken with it .......then a few days later saw the same elephant and my kids got there picture took with it l would like to go on the jungle book trip next time l go to Goa ..looks a real good trip

I am also hoping to go on this elephant jungle trip which sounds fantastic, but my fear of spiders is really putting me off. Does anyone know if these large or any other Spiders are poisonous?

I have been informed about a day trip, which I think would be more appropriate considering that I will not sleep with a spider.

If anyone can help me on this it would be most appreciated.

Was this the same one Material Girl? Babu? Often seen walking up and down the street with monks from the temple.....we caught Babu being 'exercised' on some waste ground!!

Ive just got back from Goa and did go to wash the elephants. Our taxi driver took us to a spice farm where there was just me (with hubby doing the photos) on the back of an elephant in a river. I spent a long time being showered by the elephant! It was a great experience and now for the hard part ....... the cost ........ 500 rupees for the priviledge!! (plus the taxi fare)

It was well worth it and oh so very cheap.

It's the JUNGLE BOOK trip. You will see posters in the bars, shacks, shops, eg the elephant shop in Candolim. We booked our trip through Anthony at Claudina's Shack on Candolim Beach. The overnight stay was 5,500 rupees each (about £65). It sounds expensive by goan standards but is a good full trip. You don't stop for two days and the food is plentiful! I went two years ago and the trip was superb. This time it has developed a bit and did feel more of a package tour trip. Still it is well worth doing. They have a baby elephant called Dumbo. The mud huts are fine. Didn't see any snakes or spiders. Enjoy!

I have seen many posts in this forum from people asking whether it is possible to do the "jungle book" trip without the overnight stay and the risk coming face to face with a spider the size of a saucer.

Well now there is.

This trip takes in old temples, spice plantation, visit to a remote village (the villagers have seen very few europeans if any in their lifetime), visit to a huge cave/ cavern, wash and ride the elephants. all this in a day and it ends up with a meal all included in the price.

The trip costs about £ 20- £ 25 (I think the jungle trip is £ 75).

To get yourselves booked you need to go to Ice & Spice Bar/ Restaurant in Candolim (it is very close to the T junction/ Dona Alcini/ Casa Seashell etc) and ask for Sanjay who runs the place. I don't think you can get this trip through anyone other than Sanjay so give it a try.

The two main elephants that visit candolim etc from the monks temple near anjuna are laxmi and rukmani.

I got married in Goa in November 2003 and booked the two elephants via friends for the blessing on candolim beach (cost around £70) much cheaper than a rolls in dreary england.

Hi I am little Debs better half, Trust me the Jungle book trip is excellent. Only place in the world I am told where you can swim & bath with elephants.

Sorry to say this when lots of people say it's excellent... I don't know which one my mum went on (she came out to visit me for two weeks - ahhhh..... ) But she didn't like it because the elephants were tied up and not looking happy.. But from my personal experience, have you seen what they use to control the elephants? The big metal spike with a hook on the end?? Makes you think, is it worth it? My personal opinion.... I went to Kenya and saw them in the wild - I enjoyed very much especially enjoyed when a whjole pride of lions walked past our OPEN TOP van - they so could have had me... Very thrilling!

yeah my wife agrees with you, when we got married it was like yeah thats brilliant but when she actually got to see them with the chains round there legs as shown in the picture above she got a bit upset, when we were riding it the driver had the stick with the metal spike but he just used it to tap its head as if to tell it what foot to move, wasnt any malice in it. If there was i think the wife would have decked him
