In general its best to get the lowest deck and midships, there you will feel much less motion.
Also check to see what is above and below you- don't book a room next door to a late night lounge for example, or just below the pool as you will hear deck chairs being dragged around.
Try to get somewhere close to elevators, saves a lot of walking down those long hallways.

For us location with insides depends on the cruise and a number of competing factors.
vertical, one/two decks above or below and you walk after that it is the lifts so it does not matter which deck.
Forward/Aft is walking so we try to reduce this.
Had a far forward cabin on Golden princess(slightly smaller than the Emerald) and not good for walking, 300+ paces front to back lots of things aft.

First we like to be near elevators, midship, aft, forward on most ships, buffet is usualy aft.
long cruise near the self service laundry( easy to use early or late and dont have to hang around)
Sunshine cruise easy access to the pool deck.
Port intensive near the gang plank
Dining options easy access to the buffet area for tea/snacks or to the diining room of choice
Night club/casino if late night cruise planned near them can be good.

Too low and you get more noise, engine, tender stations, thrusters(especialy forward cabins).

Above or below a noisy place best avoided eg: below the gym not good.

Having a look at the deck layout for the Emerald

There is the rear terrace pool, from previous Princees trips this can almost become a private area so cabins aft on deck14 are good, also easy access to the buffet, night club, kids clubs and aft dining.
Long walk to the front and the theatre though.

Forward deck 15, handy for the Spa. and the thermal suite.

Deck 5 cabins near the atrium, will be handy for on/off the ship, one deck up to dining, casino, 2 deck for the rest of the lower deck stuff a ride in the elevators to the top for every thing else.

The 6 cabins aft of the central elevators deck14 handy for the pool and laundry, but I would look for any warning on the web about pool machinery noise.

If we were going to be off the ship most days deck 5 cabins look a good choice but might have noise.
For personal time near the terrace pool deck 14
Sunshine, deck 14 midships.
