hi derek this one has certainly got the taste buds going it's only 7.15 am and i could eat a lovely goan curry , its difficult to pick a favourite dish all the food is fantastic , we stay in cavelossim in the south and after trying the main tourist places mikes place the get down bar and the goan village which are all brilliant our fav of those if you want to eat somwhere nice was the goan village which do a lovely rich creamy butter chicken .but now were regular visitors to cavelossim we have found a cafe type bar run by joseph and his three daughters i think its called josephs bar ? they do a wonderful steak and onions (we think its buffalo ) its really thick and juicy great for when you need a day off spicey food

not exactly goan cuisine but the chicken and pinapple kebabs in the stonehouse are the best.
chips at bobbys shack cannot be beaten anywhere in the world.
beef sizzlers at j29 (sports bar on beach road) is excellent along with there spag bol.

Chicken Xacuti is my favourite Goan dish. Quite a rich sauce flavoured with coconut. Had good ones at several places but Cecilias (next to the Stonehouse) is the best.

I've got four faves - Chicken Xacuti at Gaffinos, Cavelossim, Pork Vindaloo at the Goan Village, also Cavelossim, Chicken Tawa at Betty's Beach Shade and finally, Garlic Prawns at Betty's Place. My tastebuds are alive ..... roll on January 27, 2006 !!!

Has to be the Vindaloo at Casa Sea Shell - a unique taste, try a 'non-spicy' and work your way up.
Also Floyds for a Korma, made with Cashew nuts and Pineapple.

Hi Linda Joseph's bar is on the main road that runs through the centre of Cavelossim village if you walk towards the Dona Sylvia Hotel as if your walking down to the beach , josephs is on your left before you reach the Dona Sylvia , joseph and his family are lovely people their food is really good they also have a nice clean loo at the back of the bar , and they sell bacardi breezers for about 50p .
If you walk the opposite way through the village past the Hati Mahal , then on past D,mello's chemist ( if its likley to go dark while your out take a torch with you they sell them in D,mello's ) you will come across Medesons bar you could easily walk past it because it looks like one of the houses , probably because it is , they serve food and have a bar in the corner of what was once their front room , its a real family affair with mr & mrs mendeson cooking and serving the food , and the kids playing watched over by grandad . this little bar is truly a gem and serves excellent food and is the cheapest in Cavelossim , it's difficult to choose between mendesons and josephs the food is good in both , mendesons is cheaper but more difficult to find , although were sure someone will direct you if you head down that way. mendesons also has a nice clean loo out the back but again you will need your torch .

Anita and John, thanks so much for this information. Will definitely give both a whirl next year. If you're there we can maybe hook up and have a couple of Breezers (my fave is Passionfruit, which you can't get here).
Once again, thanks.

        Once again, thanks.
